The top legislator made the commitments at a meeting with her Lao
counterpart Pany Yathotou on the sidelines of the 27th Annual Meeting of the
Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-27) in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on January
15.
The Vietnamese legislature is also willing to share operational experience of
people’s councils in localities with the Lao side, Ngan added.
She highlighted the bilateral comprehensive, intensive and result-oriented
legislative ties, including the sharing of experience in law-building under a
cooperation agreement reached in 2017.
For her part, Pany Yathotou spoke highly of the Vietnamese NA leader’s speech
at the opening ceremony of the APPF-27 which emphasises that successful
parliamentary partnerships would contribute to addressing regional concerns and
issues.
She called on Vietnamese and Lao NAs to continue exchanging delegations,
organising workshops and thematic conferences and joining hands in inspecting
the implementation of signed agreements.
The Lao chief legislator thanked the Vietnamese NA for its support and
information and experience exchange in improving the quality of meetings of the
legislature and people’s councils.
She noted her wish that committees of the two legislatures will partner in
supervising the realisation of agreements reached by high-ranking leaders of
the two countries in order to promptly deal with bottlenecks and create more
favourable conditions for movements through border gates, helping raise the
bilateral trade, and promote economic and trade ties.
The two sides shared the views that the two legislatures should exert greater
efforts to strengthen their ties in 2019.
The leaders also talked about coordination to speed up the construction of the
Lao NA House – a gift from the Vietnamese Party, State and people to
Laos.
Pany Yathotou said she will soon pay a visit to Vietnam to seek concrete
measures to enhance the traditional friendship, special solidarity and
comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
