The northern mountainous province of Dien Bien held a solemn ceremony on May 6 to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the founding of the province (June 28), the 70th anniversary of the founding of the provincial Party Committee (October 10), the 65th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7), and to receive the Independence Order, First Class.
The
ceremony was attended by Politburo members: Tong Thi Phong, Permanent Vice Chairwoman
of the National Assembly and Vo Van Thuong, Secretary of Party Central
Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC Commission for Communication and Education.

Permanent Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong congratulated the Party, administration
and people of Dien Bien for their achievements in recent years, with active
growth and innovation in all areas.
She also asked the province
to further develop its potential and pay attention to Party building work.
Dien Bien should also implement
socio-cultural development tasks on a par with improving human resource quality
and caring for people’s health, social welfare and sustainable poverty
reduction, as well as maintaining political stability and social order, while
ensuring the implementation of religious and ethnic policies, she noted.
Following the ceremony, a
grand parade was held with the participation of over 2,000 people including
representatives of the armed forces, officials and employees, workers, farmers,
women, and youth in the province.

Officials of Hoa Binh province led by Bui Van Khanh, Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, along with others from the provinces also taking part in a programme on promoting Vietnamese localities in the US and Canada, visited and had a working session with the Consulate General of Vietnam in Houston on April 24 (local time). The delegation was welcomed by Hoang Thuy Duong, Consul General of Vietnam in the city, and staff members of the consulate.
