and officers of Hoa Binh’s Military High Command hand over tents to local
residents.
Lau Bai hamlet is home to 33
households with 124 people, all of whom are Dao ethnic people. In the recent
abnormal downpours, landslides blocked many sections of the road linking the
commune’s centre with this hamlet, and the road has just been passable since
October 14 afternoon. A low voltage electric pole fell down, triggering a
blackout for almost a week and forcing all local students to be off school.
Notably, houses of 27 families are in a dangerous situation because of
landslides, floods and subsidence.

After inspecting the situation, Vice
Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial
People’s Council Tran Dang Ninh valued local authorities’ activeness in
preventing and addressing disaster consequences. Regarding landslides, flash
floods and subsidence at houses and hills, he stressed that it is of critical
importance to ensure residents’ safety and protect their assets, especially
when a storm recently weakening to a tropical depression is moving towards the
mainland and may trigger further downpours.
He asked authorities of Da Bac district, Vay Nua
commune and Lau Bai hamlet to give spiritual support to local people and
prepare land for them to resettle. The Da Bac district People’s Committee has
to make plans and estimate costs to submit to the provincial administration for
the timely provision of relief. Authorities must ensure food, clothes and
living place for flood victims as well as environmental hygiene to prevent
post-flood diseases.
An excavator is used to make path for
people in Lau Bai hamlet to move to a new living place in the area of Lim hill

makeshift shelters in the area of Lim hill for 27 families of Lau Bai. The
provincial Department of Health also distributed medicine and anti-mosquito
substance and instructed locals to use them to prevent diseases./.
