(HBO) – With 88 percent of its population being ethnic minorities who are living in all 16 communes and towns, Mai Chau district has rolled out "good mass mobilisation models” in an effort to ensure political stability and spur socio-economic development.

Ha Thi Duoc, head of the district Party Committee’s mass mobilisation board, said the district has reenacted and preserved two major festivals, comprising Gau Tao of the Mong ethnic group and the "Xen ban, Xen muong” of the Thai ethnic group, to contribute to protecting and upholding traditional cultural values, while promoting culture and tourism potential of the locality, and strengthening solidarity between ethnic groups in the district.

This has been seen as a "good mass mobilisation model” that aims to contribute to political stability and socio-economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited areas, the official said.

Over the past years, Mai Chau has been regarded as a bright spot in mass mobilisation in ethnic minority-inhabited areas.

The work was stepped up in 2020 when local residents met a range of difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the year, the district issued 66 documents on mass mobilisation. It has also seriously implemented directives and resolutions adopted by the Party Central Committee and Hoa Binh province regarding the enhancement and the revamp of the work in ethnic minority-inhabited areas.

The district has invested in socio-economic infrastructure, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of locals. As a result, all of local households have accessed the national power grid, while internet services have covered all of the 16 communes in the district.

Local authorities have pushed ahead with technological-scientific transfer and the transformation of plant and animal structure, and encouraged local residents to donate land to public projects.

With diverse activities, the fatherland front committees and socio-political organisations at all levels have popularised guidelines of the Party, and policies and laws of the State.

Despite a decline in tourism due to the pandemic, Mai Chau has maintained its normal production activities, as reflected through the formation of major crop production areas in Mai Ha, Xam Khoe and Tong Dau communes, helping locals earn 2-3 times higher than rice cultivation.

The locality’s per capita income reaches 34.8 million VND, while its poverty rate drops to 12.56 percent.

Local residents have maintained their solidarity, observed policies and laws, played an active role in patriotic emulation movements, and joined hands in new-style rural area building.

Such achievements are attributable to the determination of all-level Party Committees, authorities and fatherland front committees, notably in mass mobilisation in ethnic minority-inhabited areas./.
