(HBO) – Residents in Mo hamlet of Chieng Chau commune, Mai Chau district, held a great national solidarity festival on November 8. The event was attended by Bui Duc Hinh, Standing Vice Secretary of the Hoa Binh provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; Bui Tien Luc, head of the provincial Party Committee’s Mass Mobilisation Board and President of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee; along with officials of the Hoa Binh Confederation of Labour, the departments of public security, home affairs, and industry & trade, and Mai Chau district.

Bui Duc Hinh, Standing Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, presents flowers to congratulate residents in Mo hamlet of Chieng Chau commune (Mai Chau district).

Mo hamlet, located by National Highway 15A, is home to 218 households with 898 people from the Thai, Kinh, Muong, and Hoa ethnic groups. Thai people account for 82 percent of the local population.

In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic and abnormal weather conditions have affected local livelihoods, especially community-based tourism, but locals have managed to address difficulties and stayed united to develop their community. Per capita income has reached 47 million VND (2,000 USD), helping to bring the respective numbers of poor and near-poor households to six and 10.

In addition, people have actively supported the "All people stay united to build new-style rural areas and civilised cities” campaign and boosted community-based tourism. Security and order have been guaranteed. All children have had their access to education ensured and no of them are malnourished. Up to 85 percent of the local residents have been covered by health insurance while 100 households have accessed hygienic water.

At the event, the families with good performance in community building were honoured. Leaders of the provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and VFF Committee, along with officials of departments and Mai Chau district presented flowers and gifts to congratulate the community. A new house was also handed over to Ha Cong En, a disadvantaged family.

An emulation movement for Mo hamlet in 2022 was also launched. Accordingly, the community looks to have 87 - 90 percent of the households meeting the "civilised family” criteria, raise the per capita income to 50 million VND, reduce the household poverty rate to 2 percent, and ensure 100 percent of eligible people are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

In his remarks, Bui Duc Hinh, Standing Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, applauded the community’s achievements.

He asked all-level Party committees, administrations, and VFF committees to work to encourage people to strengthen solidarity, emulate in working, and actively take part in patriotic emulation campaigns. They need to enhance their leadership to raise public awareness of COVID-19 prevention and control so as to safely and flexibly adapt to and effectively control the pandemic as in line with the Government’s Resolution No. 128-NQ/CP.

Local authorities were also told to maximise every resource, step up the implementation of the resolutions of all-level Party congresses, especially the 17th provincial Party Congress, and coordinate with one another to fruitfully carry out programmes and policies on ethnic minorities.

The official also asked Mo hamlet to continue bringing into play the role of self-management and community-based anti-COVID-19 groups, maintain solidarity, and keep their trust in the Party, State, and local administrations’ leadership, thereby contributing to local development./.
