(HBO) – The Hoa Binh People’s Committee on December 15 had a working session with an inter-sectoral delegation led by Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha on the implementation of child protection and gender equality tasks in the province this year.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Toan speaks at the working session. He is also head of the Hoa Binh’s steering committees on children's affairs and women empowerment.

Hoa Binh is currently home to 230,280 children, equivalent to 26.54 percent of the province’s population. Of them, 4,620 are in disadvantaged circumstances, according to the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

In 2021, the province has rolled out policies and programmes on child protection and safety amid the complexities of COVID-19. Efforts have been made to prevent accident, injury and abuse involving children. The provincial People’s Committee has devised action plans to implement the national strategy on gender equality for the 2021-30 and a programme on gender-based violence prevention and combat for 2021-25, as well as integrated gender equality in major programmes and plans of the province.

To improve effectiveness in the coming time, the provincial People’s Committee proposed funding for the implementation of a number of pilot programmes and expansion of the ‘community shelter’ model, and holding of vocational courses for ethnic women, among others.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs was asked to issue guidelines on activities of the fund for children at district level, support the action plan for children in the 2021-30, and create favourable conditions for Hoa Binh to launch of a pilot child protection model in its poverty reduction programme, and join programme on child drowning prevention.

Hoa Binh has made commendable results reflecting its concerted efforts in child protection and gender equality, the delegation concluded at the end of the working session.

Taking note on the province’s suggestions, Ha asked Hoa Binh authorities to further integrate programmes in building new-style rural areas, poverty reduction, and support for ethnic minority groups in a flexible manner, so as to better address issues of child protection and gender equality and strive to fulfil set targets.
