(HBO) – In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic that has taken a heavy toll on socio-economic aspects, joining efforts by the entire political system, the farmers’ unions at all levels in Hoa Binh province have carried out a number of meaningful activities helping with the pandemic fight and the sale of agricultural products.

Facing serious impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, farmers have encountered numerous difficulties in selling their produce, which has led to considerable economic losses. Given this, the Vietnam Farmers’ Union Central Committee launched a programme boosting connectivity in the sale of agricultural products in order to help farmers surmount the pandemic. In response, the Standing Board of the Hoa Binh provincial Farmers’ Union has taken steps to support members to sell their produce.

To carry out this programme, all-level farmers’ unions have focused on surveying the products whose sale needs promotion, opening the sites for directly selling produce to consumers, boosting the sale online, and equipping farmers with online sales skills via training courses. They have also signed cooperation agreements on selling farm produce with related parties, including the businesses managing such e-commerce platforms as Postmart.vn and Voso.vn.

Nguyen Thi Huong Hai, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial Farmers’ Union, said the union has stepped up communications on its Facebook page and website to help introduce and sell local agricultural products. Despite their limited number, the food and farm produce stores that the union has helped to set up have brought into play their role in supplying safe food for consumers. They have also served as the sites for gathering and selling agricultural products from other localities.

Thanks to diverse activities supporting farmers, over the past year, the Farmers’ Union of Hoa Binh province has helped sell more than 120 tonnes of vegetables and fruit grown in Lac Son, Kim Boi, and Tan Lac districts; tens of tonnes of organic orange from Cao Phong district; as well as tens of tonnes of orange from Ha Giang province, lychee from Bac Giang province, clean vegetables from Hanoi, and many other agricultural products from Ninh Binh province. So far, the union has assisted the establishment of four stores selling safe farm produce in Luong Son, Mai Chau, and Kim Boi districts, and Hoa Binh city.
