(HBO) – After the ‘Khai ha’ (going down the field) festival held on the eighth day of the lunar year, people in Phong Phu commune of Tan Lac district begin tasks of the new year.

War veterans in Phong Phu commune (Tan Lac district) take part in an emulation campaign to build effective economic models.

President of the association of war veterans in Phong Phu commune Bui Tan Thuong said that the former soldiers now play a vanguard role in socio-economic development in the locality. The association has more than 570 well-off member households and 300 others building effective economic models.

Despite the complex developments of the COVID-19 last year, local authorities launched emulation campaigns to realise the twin targets of boosting socio-economic development and curbing the spread of the pandemic.

Chairman of the People’s Committee of the district Bui Van Nho said various campaigns have been effectively carried out, notably the one in Tan Lac in building new-style rural areas in line with creating modern urban areas; and another calling on local people to join hands to support the poor and leave no one behind; and more.

In 2021, the agro-forestry-fishery sector posted a growth rate of 4.8 percent, up 0.2 percent year on year. The sector’s export value was estimated at 11.09 trillion VND (486.08 million USD), up 5.2 percent; the rate of rural residents having access to clean water hit 95.3 percent, and forest coverage stabilised at over 51.5 percent.

Total production value surpassed 1.12 trillion VND, seeing a year-on-year surge of 9.7 percent while social investment capital neared 1.96 trillion VND.

Average per capita income was valued at 33.38 million VND in the year and the proportion of poor households stood at 13 percent. Land clearance has been sped up to meet the schedule of projects, as well as the programme to build new-style rural areas.

Political security and social order have been maintained and COVID-19 prevention and control measures in place, ensuring that the vaccination campaign was on schedule and safe.

Last year, the Kim Dong secondary school was honoured with a commemorative flag from the Prime Minister highlighting its outstanding achievements in the emulation campaign, and six other collectives received flags from the provincial People’s Committee and 14 earned certificates of merit bestowed by the Chairman of the Committee.

For 2022, the district has launched a campaign calling on all in Tan Lac to stay united, disciplined and responsible to safely adapt to the new situation and recover for growth, with an aim to fulfil targets and tasks for socio-economic development this year./.
