(HBO) – A delegation led by Bui Van Tinh, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Hoa Binh provincial Party Committee, has had a working session with officials of Da Bac district and examined the settlement of flood consequences here.

Da Bac district was severely affected by the recent downpours and flooding, which claimed six lives and left five others missing. Meanwhile, 51 houses collapsed or were washed away while 325 houses were impacted by landslides and three were unroofed. The district evacuated 211 households from dangerous areas, but 560 other families are still residing in vulnerable areas and need urgent evacuation. Downpours and flooding also caused serious damage to local infrastructure, agricultural production and people’s assets. Total losses are estimated at over 249 billion VND (10.96 million USD).

Provincial and district authorities are concurrently carrying out two important tasks: recovering production activities and stabilising locals’ lives.

Bui Van Tinh, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Hoa Binh provincial Party Committee, visits and presents gifts to residents in the resettlement area of Lau Bai hamlet in Vay Nua commune, Da Bac district.
Speaking at the working session, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Bui Van Tinh appreciated Da Bac’s efforts to support local residents and address flood consequences. He asked local authorities to continue searching for missing people and step up communication activities to call on people to join hands with the administration to soon resume economic activities and stabilise their lives.

The district’s authorities and relevant departments and sectors need to swiftly provide aid for affected organisations and people, while supporting them with crop seeds and seedlings to help recover agricultural activities.

They also need to ensure that resettlement areas suit people’s custom and meet their production demand. They must force residents in vulnerable areas to move to resettlement areas to ensure their long-term safety, he said, adding that authorities must also pay attention to environmental issues to prevent post-flood disease outbreaks.

Tinh said the reception and distribution of flood relief must ensure that aid is delivered to targeted people and not lost. He asked authorities and relevant forces to summon all efforts to help ease difficulties facing local people.

Prior to the working session, the provincial Party leader had inspected the settlement of flood consequences in Vay Nua commune, presented aid packages to 33 households in the resettlement area of the commune’s Lau Bai hamlet, and examined landslide addressing efforts at Chau Lake in Tu Ly commune./.
