On the occasion of the 79th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) (December 22), Col. Dinh Dinh Truong, commander of the provincial Military Command, granted an interview to Hoa Binh newspaper about the fighting, building and development of the heroic VPA.

Reporter: Could you please elaborate on the significance of the establishment of the VPA in the national context and its role in the struggle for national liberation?

Col. Dinh Dinh Truong: In December 1944, President Ho Chi Minh issued an order to establish the Vietnam Liberation and Propagation Army, which has continuously grown and strengthened. December 22, 1944 was set as the founding day of the VPA, marking the birth of a new military organisation for our nation.

In 1989, following the Party Central Committee’s directive and the Government’s decision, December 22 is not only the founding anniversary of the VPA but also the all-people defence festival.

Reporter: Over the course of construction and development, the VPA has unwaveringly adhered to its oath "Loyal to the Party, devoted to the people, ready to fight and sacrifice for national independence and freedom". How has this commitment been honoured?

Col. Dinh Dinh Truong: On December 22, 1964 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of our army, President Ho Chi Minh visited and praised: "Our army is loyal to the Party, devoted to the people, ready to fight and sacrifice for national independence, freedom and socialism. It fulfils every task, overcomes every difficulty, and defeats every enemy”.

Through nearly 80 years of construction, fighting and growth, under the absolute and direct leadership of the Party in all aspects, our army has kept consolidating and growing. It vividly demonstrates the political mettle of the revolutionary army that closely connects with the people, and effectively fulfills functions and tasks entrusted by the Party, State and people.

Reporter: In order to meet requirements and tasks of building and defending the homeland in the new situation, which tasks should the provincial armed forces need to focus to fulfil their missions, thus deserving the trust of the provincial Party organisation, authorities and people of all ethnic groups?

Col. Dinh Dinh Truong: Firstly, every officer and soldier of the provincial armed forces must continuously uphold the heroic traditions of the VPA, striving to accomplish every assigned task. They should continue to fully grasp the military and defence principles and viewpoints of the Party.

In the coming time, the provincial Party Committee and Military Command will continue to direct efforts towards improving the overall quality and combat strength of the armed forces.

They will direct the provincial armed forces to take the lead in spreading a campaign on studying and following the thought, morals, and lifestyle of President Ho Chi Minh, in combination with a campaign on upholding tradition, dedicating talents, worthy of the title of Uncle Ho's soldiers, and the "Determined to Win” emulation movement.

Reporter: Thank you very much!
