Huynh Thanh Dat, member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Minister of Science and Technology, on October 8 chaired a teleconference with Hoa Binh and Son La provinces on the socio-economic situations during January – September.

Nguyen Van Toan, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, at the teleconference.

At the event, Nguyen Van Toan, Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoa Binh province, highlighted the local socio-economic development during the nine-month span, with the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) estimated to rise 9.02% and industrial production 8% compared to the same period last year.

The total revenue to the state budget was 4.59 trillion VND (184.93 million USD), accounting for 114% and 83% of the projections from the Government and the provincial People’s Council, respectively, he said, adding improvements were seen in the local investment climate and robust results attained in the areas of social culture and health care.

However, the province recorded lower disbursement of public capital than the requirement, challenges in site clearance work, and sluggish implementation of national target programmes, he stated.

Toan suggested the Government provide the province with over 1 trillion VND in support for its Typhoon Yagi relief efforts, allow the extension of the disbursement of public capital for socio-economic recovery and development programmes until December 31 next year, and give financial assistance for the locality to complete the four-lane Hoa Binh – Moc Chau highway.

Son La province also delivered a report on its socio-economic development and make several recommendations to the Government.

Concluding the event, Dat praised the two provinces’ efforts to carry out socio-economic development missions, particularly response to and recovery from Typhoon Yagi. He asked the localities to continue keeping a close watch on and drastically completing their missions, and ordered competent ministries and sectors to take note of the proposals and pen measures to handle soon.
