Seventy anglers from Hoa Binh and other cities and provinces across the nation participated in a sport fishing tournament in Hoa Binh city on November 20. The event was held by the provincial People’s Committee in collaboration with the Vietnam Sport Fishing Association.

At the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dinh Cong Su highlighted the rich biodiversity of Hoa Binh Lake, which is home to over 100 species, including several rare specimens with economic and scientific values.

He said the tournament aimed to promote Hoa Binh Lake's landscape, culture, and cuisine to domestic and international visitors while providing anglers an opportunity to showcase their skills and techniques.

Participants were allowed to choose from three disciplines of lure fishing, float fishing, and lancer fishing, select their own fishing rods and bait, with a maximum of two rods per person.

The tournament’s star moment came when Nguyen Van Tuan from Ha Tinh province landed a longnose gar, weighing 10.95 kilogrammes. This catch overshadowed other impressive hauls, including a 3.87-kilogramme tilapia caught by Bui Minh Tuan from Hung Yen province and a 2.53-kilogramme milkfish by Bui Minh Tuan from Bac Giang province.

The first prizes in lure fishing, float fishing, and lancer fishing went to Le Viet Hung from Nam Dinh province, Mai Thanh Tung from Thanh Hoa province, and Nguyen Trung Hong from Hanoi, respectively.

Additionally, Pham Bich Thao from Bac Giang province received the style award, and Ngo Van Thang from Hanoi was honoured with the veteran award.
