In recent years, the mass physical training and sports (PTS) movement in Hoa Binh province has developed strongly and spread widely. Regardless of age, gender or occupation, people actively participate in physical training, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic sports atmosphere within the community.

The mass sports movement in Quyet Thang commune, Lac Son district has attracted a large number of residents to engage in physical training.

In communes, wards and townships throughout the province, sports have become an indispensable part of spiritual and cultural life. Popular activities such as steam volleyball, wellness exercises, football, table tennis and cycling attract large numbers of people to participate.

Around 5 p.m every day, the courtyard of the cultural house in Dong Thanh hamlet, Cao Duong commune, Luong Son district echoes with laughter, chatter and cheers during steam volleyball matches among local residents. Ms. Bui Thi Binh An, a regular participant shared: "Since I started playing steam volleyball, my health and mood have improved. I feel happier and more optimistic. Especially, the bonds between neighbors have grown stronger thanks to these sporting activities.” It is evident that PTS activities not only enhance physical health but also create a healthy recreational environment, strengthen community ties, enrich spiritual life and help deter social ills.

According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DCST), in 2024, the entire province had nearly 317,800 people regularly participating in sports. The number of sports households reached over 61,200, and there were 836 PTS clubs actively operating throughout the province. Leading localities in terms of regular participants include Lac Son district with nearly 59,000 people, Hoa Binh city with 56,450 people, and Kim Boi district with over 43,640 people.

Volleyball continues to be the most favored sport, with 217 clubs maintaining active operations. Additionally, pickleball - a relatively new sport has attracted many participants with 95 clubs; athletics follows with 77 clubs, and football with 75 clubs. Over the past year, the province has organized 14 provincial-level sports tournaments, 67 district-level tournaments, and nearly 400 commune, ward and township-level tournaments, drawing more than 67,300 athletes to compete. Furthermore, 2,865 sports facilities across the province are being effectively utilized, meeting the needs of people for training, competition, and social interaction. The mass PTS movement in Hoa Binh province continues to spread strongly, as evidenced by the steadily increasing number of people engaging in regular physical training each year.

These encouraging results have been achieved thanks to the attention and close direction of Party committees, authorities, and localities at all levels, as well as the enthusiastic response of the people. The socialization of sports has been promoted, enabling many organizations and individuals to join hands in supporting the movement’s development.

Comrade Dao Tien Cuong, Deputy Director of the DCST stated: "In 2024, the DCST issue and effectively implement policies related to state management in the PTS sector. We have been developing mechanisms and policies to promote the province’s PTS initiatives. The campaign all people exercise is widely implemented. Beyond the goal of health improvement, the mass PTS movement also serves as a thread that weaves the community together, strengthening bonds among residents.
