The men’s and women’s volleyball championship in Lac Son district attracts large crowds of spectators.

Starting from January 31 (the third day of the lunar new year), numerous sports tournaments were held across localities, creating a vibrant and colorful sports scene throughout the province.

From February 2–3, the 2025 Lac Son men’s and women’s volleyball championship took place at the district’s stadium. Lac Son stands out as a locality with a vibrant sports movement, boasting more than 58,700 regular participants, also the highest number of individuals and households practicing sports regularly in the province in 2024.

Bui Van Cong, a key volleyball enthusiast from Xuat Hoa commune, said the local volleyball teams are becoming younger, showcasing strong stamina, impressive techniques, and determination. This has brought volleyball fans thrilling matches featuring powerful spikes, precise drop shots, direct scoring serves, and remarkable defensive plays.

At the grassroots level, early spring sports activities were equally lively. Muong Chieng commune (Da Bac district) hosted traditional competitions such as crossbow shooting, tug of war, and stick pushing, while My Thanh commune (Lac Son district) organised a seven-a-side football tournament.

According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, nearly 480 sports tournaments were held across Hoa Binh in 2024 at provincial, district, and commune levels, attracting over 67,000 athletes. Particularly during festivals and early spring celebrations, often coinciding with major national and local events, sports exchanges and competitions are held with great enthusiasm. Popular sports during this period include volleyball, football, and traditional ethnic sports such as crossbow shooting, tug of war, and stick pushing.

On February 1 (the fourth day of the lunar new year), the 2025 Spring Festival of Culture and Sports took place at Thinh Lang ward stadium in Hoa Binh city. The festival featured seven tug-of-war teams, four men’s seven-a-side football teams, and five women’s volleyball teams. This cultural and sports event has been a well-preserved tradition in Thinh Lang ward for years.

Nguyen Thuy Quynh, Secretary of the Thinh Lang Ward Youth Union, noted sports activities have become an indispensable part of early spring festivities in Thinh Lang ward. They not only improve physical health but also preserve cultural identity and strengthen community bonds. Moreover, they play a crucial role in helping young people stay away from social evils, she added.
