Oanh competed well to progress to the finals of the three-string bow event alongside her Indonesian rival Sri Ranti, as they experienced a tense final competition with five series of shots, including three turns each.

In the first series, Oanh won 27 points with three shots hitting the nine points, while Ranti recorded 30 points by hitting the bull's eye three times. In the second series, Oanh tied 28-28 with her rival to keep the gap at 55-58.

Oanh’s efforts in the third series brought her a perfect 30 points to bring her to within two points (85-87). In series 4 and 5, the two archers were again on a par with 29-29 and 28-28, respectively.

The results were just enough for Ranti to win the gold with 144 points after five series. Oanh came in second just two point behind.

Earlier, the Tra Vinh native beat hosts’ player Fatin Salleh in the semi-final to book a berth in the final round.

Winning the silver medal at the regional arena is a big surprise for Oanh, as she is the first player to bring home a medal for Vietnam at this year’s SEA Games. This is also the first time the 20 year old is participating in a SEA Games event.

Oanh is not an experienced archer but she put in an outstanding performance and deserved to win this precious medal, Coach Cap Manh Tan said of his young player’s results.

As of 5pm Wednesday, with a silver won by archery team, Vietnam rank No. 3 on the SEA Games 2017 medal tally, following hosts Malaysia and Indonesia with one gold each.
