Galvez will replace General Rey Leonardo, whose tenure will end at the end of April. Galvez, who led troops participating in campaign to liberate the southern Marawi city from insurgents in May 2017, will be the AFP chief until his retirement in December this year.

In January 2017, Galvez took the position as head of the Western Mindanao Command. Previously, he was the commander of the sixth Infantry Division in Maguindanao province.-VNA
