A Bangladeshi delegation led by Foreign Secretary MD Shahidul Haque attended the negotiations between the two countries. A memorandum of understanding is hoped to be reached after the talks, paving the way for the two countries to repatriate all Rohingya people from Bangladesh to Myanmar.

A final meeting between Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali and Myanmar’s State Councillor Aung San Suu Kyi is expected to be held in Nay Pwi Taw capital city of Myanmar on November 23.

The two countries have to date agreed on principal the repatriation, but there remain differences.

Government security operations were launched in Rakhine state after Rohingya Muslim insurgents attacked police and military outposts on August 25. The operations led to more than 600,000 Rohingyas fleeing to neighbouring Bangladesh.
