(HBO) – The northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh has only one year left to fulfilltargets set in the Resolution of the 16th provincial Party Congress. One of the major goals that the province is striving to reach is 1.7 billion USD in import-export revenue in 2020, 3.5 times higher than the figure in 2015.

Regarding opportunities for the province
on the path of reaching the target, Pham Tien Dung, Director of the provincial
Department of Industry and Trade, said that expanded markets thanks to new
generation free trade agreements have helped improve the local investment and
business environment.
Particularly, the Comprehensive and
Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU-Vietnam
Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which took effect in 2019, have encouraged the
inflows of foreign direct investment and helped businesses improve production
capacity, he said.
Local firms in Hoa Binh have grasped the
chances by investing more in enhancing their products’ quality, paving the way
for sustainable growth in export.
Major imported products of Hoa Binh include materials, machines and
equipment for production. The supporting industry of the province has also
enjoyed expansion, said Dung.
Currently, Hoa Binh has 49 businesses
engaging in import-export activities, 26 of which are foreign-invested
companies and the remainders are joint ventures and domestic enterprises.
Asian countries, including China, Japan,
the Republic of Korea, Singapore and Malaysia, are major export markets of the province,
accounting for35.15 percent of its total export revenue, followed by the EU
market with 15.47 percent, North America with 15 percent, Eastern Europe, 1.53
percent.
The province’s average export growth is
31 percent, pushing Hoa Binh to the fifth position among northern midland and
mountainous provinces in export revenue and sixth in per capita export turnover,
said Dung.
He said that in order to realize the goals
set in the 16th provincial Party Congress’s Resolution, the province
will continue applying measures to promote export activities, including attracting
moreinvestment; building, developing and protecting national brands and major
products, and implementing international integration commitments of the country
effectively.
At the same time, the province will work
to connect local agro-aquatic production firms with exporters, while popularising
the CPTPP and optimising signed free trade agreements.
Hoa Binh will also review production
projects for export and remove obstacles facing them, thus ensuring goods for
export, while developing the supporting industry to increase the localisation
ratio in export products, added Dung./.
According to data from the Hoa Binh Provincial Party Committee, the industrial production index for the first six months of 2025 is estimated to have increased by 20% compared to the same period last year. This marks the highest year-on-year growth rate for this period since 2020.
In the first six months of 2025, Hoa Binh province’s export turnover was estimated at 1.145 billion USD, marking an 18.11% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Import turnover was estimated at $ 804 million, a 17.15% increase, which helped the province maintain a positive trade balance.
The lives of the ethnic minority farmers in Tan Lac district have gradually improved thanks to the new directions in agricultural production. This is a testament to the collective strength fostered through the professional associations and groups implemented by various levels of the district’s Farmers’ Union.
With the motto the "product quality comes first,” after nearly one year of establishment and operation, Muong village’s Clean Food Agricultural and Commercial Cooperative, located in Cau Hamlet, Hung Son Commune (Kim Boi district), has launched reputable, high-quality agricultural products to the market that are well-received by consumers. The products such as Muong village’s pork sausage, salt-cured chicken, and salt-cured pork hocks have gradually carved out a place in the market and they are on the path to obtaining the OCOP certification.
In the past, the phrase "bumper harvest, rock-bottom prices" was a familiar refrain for Vietnamese farmers engaged in fragmented, small-scale agriculture. But today, a new spirit is emerging across rural areas of Hoa Binh province - one of collaboration, organisation, and collective economic models that provide a stable foundation for production.
Maintaining growing area codes and packing facility codes in accordance with regulations is a mandatory requirement for agricultural products to be eligible for export. Recently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hoa Binh province has intensified technical supervision of designated farming areas and packing facilities to safeguard the "green passport" that enables its products to access international markets.
