(HBO) – Hoa Binh received great news in early November as the province for the first time has exported 10 tonnes of fresh sugar cane to Germany, a demanding market in Europe requiring high quality products with stringent regulations.

Fresh sugar cane produced by Tien Ngan Investment and Trade Limited Company (Hoa Binh city) is meticulously packed for export.

It is the initial result of carrying out the Resolution of the 27th Congress of the provincial Party organisation, which sets a goal of diversifying export markets and raising annual export revenues to 18 percent and more, and also of realising a plan to restructure Hoa Binh agricultural sector for the 2021-25 compiled by the provincial People’s Committee.

With this achievement, the People’s Committee has asked the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to prepare production plans for upcoming crops, and the export of sugar cane to new markets.

The province is set to ship more than 40 tonnes of the plant to the UK and Germany in the coming time. It is a positive signal which opens up export chances for the province’s key farm produce as well as makes farmers stick with sugar cane, a staple of the province. Director of the provincial Agriculture and Rural Development Department Nguyen Huy Nhuan said in recent years, efforts to diversify and improve farm produce for exports have reaped positive results.

With the issuance of cultivation area codes, in the recent two years, the province exported longan and banana to the Chinese market via official channel. In the first six months of the year, Mavin Hoa Binh Aquaculture Company Limited in Hien Luong - Da Bac shipped 80 tonnes of tilapia to the US. The company is projected to export about 180 tonnes of fish in 2021. The provincial People’s Committee has named high quality varieties of orange, tangerine, pomelo and rice as Hoa Binh’s staples.

Other farm produce that have received due attention include longan, dragon fruit, squash and pumpkin. Together with sugar cane, the province holds advantage in the cultivation of tea, maize, temperate fruits like persimmon, plum and peach, along with spices and herbal plants, of which many are deemed suitable for exports.

With efforts made by sectors of all levels and firms in seeking new markets, farm produce exports of Hoa Binh have been bolstered with various products, contributing to high growth rate in the province’s exports as a whole.

In October, export turnover exceeded 109.750 million USD, bring the figure in the first 10 months to 974.886 million USD, up 19.6 percent year-on-year. Director of the Hoa Binh Department of Industry and Trade Pham Tien Dung said that exports, particularly to Europe, need to meet stringent criteria and thus requiring collaboration between sectors.

The agriculture and rural development sector, the farmers' union, the cooperative alliance, and district and city, must find partners with experience in processing so as to improve quality and competitiveness of the province’s export items, he added./.
