(HBO) - Ngu hamlet in Hien Luong commune of Da Bac district is home to the four ethnic groups of Dao, Muong, Tay and Kinh, with 87 households and 410 members. Over the past years, local people have been united and joined hands in building cultural residential areas.

Secretary of the hamlet’s Party cell Ban Van Hung said that the hamlet has implemented the "self-managed road” model, which proves effective. Local families regularly assign their members to clean up the roads, while militia and rural security forces conduct regular patrols to safeguard security and order in the locality.

Locals have donated 2,300sq.m of land to build roads and other works, and 700sq.m of land and 150 workdays for construction of inner-field roads. They are also willing to participate in building "Great Unity” houses.

Meanwhile, the Fatherland Front board and relevant organisations have encouraged locals to work hard, get rich legally, and support poor households to help them escape from poverty and stabilize their lives.

With 14 Party members, Ngu hamlet’s Party cell affirms its leading role at the grassroots level. Each Party member plays a key role in implementing policies, campaigns and patriotic emulation movements.

Last year, despite general difficulties, the hamlet saw positive changes. The average per capita income reached 22 million VND per year, 4 million VND higher than that of the previous year, while the number of poor households fell 7.7 percent year on year to 16.5 percent (equivalent to 14 households).

Local people have actively participated in building cultural lifestyle and implementing criteria of cultural families and residential areas. The hamlet has been recognized as a cultural residential area and 70 local households as cultural families. All households gain access to hygienic water and all school-age pupils are allowed to go to school.

Although the hamlet has got a facelift, Ban Van Hung still worries about economic development, sustainable poverty reduction and per capita income which have yet to meet expectations. He expressed his delight at the information that the master plan for socio-economic development in the mountainous and ethnic-inhabited regions was approved by the National Assembly.

"I really like the remark made by Minister-Chairman of the Government Committee for Ethnic Affairs Do Van Chien at the National Great Unity Festival 2020 in the hamlet affirming that all ethnic groups are equal and should respect and support each other for mutual development”.

He quoted Chien as saying that each person should promote the nation’s tradition of unity, and discuss with other people to seek crops suitable to local land so as to eliminate poverty and get rich legally.

He hoped that the higher levels will pay attention to policies and projects promoting linkages in cultivation and husbandry so as to win stable distribution for local products./.
