Hoang Van Thu High School for the Gifted - the only such high school in Hoa Binh province - will have a completely new profile after it is moved to a more suitable location. The move is good news for the school, which has a long history of rich achievements and has always led Hoa Binh in terms of education quality.
In its new location, Hoang Van Thu High School for the Gifted will have modern infrastructure that meets requirements in education innovation and quality improvements.
Under provincial planning, the total area for the school will be 8.4 hectares and cost an estimated 225 billion VND. In the first phase, construction will be carried out on 4.4 hectares, with the Trungnam Group sponsoring the cost of some 195 billion VND.
Hoang Van Thu High School will boast a modern and scientific design, with 56 classrooms and 45 functional rooms for educating some 1,600 students. Infrastructure, educational facilities, and teaching and study equipment will meet the requirements for a national-standard school and for a provincial school for the gifted.
It will also have a full-size football pitch with a grandstand, a 7-a-side football pitch, badminton and volleyball courts, and an outdoor gymnasium with modern equipment. All of these facilities help create a convenient educational space, enabling the school to offer extra-curricular activities and experiential educational programmes in an ideal environment.
The sponsor, the Trungnam Group, specialises in the fields of energy, infrastructure, real estate, and information technology. After more than 18 years in business, it has established a strategy of sustainable development, focusing on the "3Ps” of People, Planet, and Productivity. It has spent 750 billion VND sponsoring Vietnam’s education sector, providing a sound educational environment for about 5,000 students in a number of cities and provinces.
"The Trungnam Group is pleased to contribute to educational development in Hoa Binh by investing in the construction of the only high school for the gifted in the province,” a representative from the Group said. "We hope this investment will have a positive effect and contribute to helping the high school develop further and become an example in educational innovation.”
"Compared to the old location, the new school will be more convenient because it has a larger area and open spaces, is suitable in terms of traffic, and will be capable of meeting demand for expansion and infrastructure investment in this new period of development,” said Bui Van Duong, Principal of Hoang Van Thu High School for the Gifted. "The school will have a key infrastructure foundation to realise its goal of becoming a truly high-quality education centre in the province, worthy of its position as a school for the gifted and confidently competing with similar schools in Vietnam’s north.”
The existing Hoang Van Thu High School covers an area of some 2.6 hectares in Thinh Lang ward in Hoa Binh city. Its area is not large enough to invest in modern infrastructure to meet its development planning. Along with limitations in space, it also faces difficulties in terms of facilities and teaching equipment. It was built in 1982, and when it became degraded could only be renovated. A number of newly-built items, meanwhile, lacked master planning, so were fragmented and patchy. The size of the student dormitory falls short of demand, as there are only 33 rooms with a maximum capacity of 200 students; much less than the 500 students seeking on-site accommodation. The playgrounds, training grounds, and sports areas are simply not good enough. The school would face many difficulties in efforts to improve the quality of its education and training in the future. Therefore, its Board of Directors proposed to the province and related departments, agencies, and sectors that a new school be built that meets the education and training needs of a school for the gifted.
"Hoang Van Thu High School was established in 1947,” said Bui Thi Kim Tuyen, Director of the Provincial Department of Education and Training. "In its 74 years, generations of teachers, staff, and students have made every effort to overcome the difficulties and be creative and flexible in teaching and studies, to be deserving of its reputation as the flagship of the provincial education and training sector. Together with other schools for the gifted around the country, Hoang Van Thu High School has the key task of identifying and fostering gifted students, educating them to meet the development requirements of the province and the country. Therefore, in the new development phase, it is necessary to focus on investment and solutions for the school to fully perform its roles and tasks.”
"We believe that given the capacity and responsibility of the investors, the school will be built properly and once opened will promote efficiency in education,” Tuyen continued. "It will make an important contribution to improving the quality of comprehensive education, making the school worthy of being a high-quality education centre in the province and reaching the standards in the national network of schools for the gifted.”/.
