(HBO) – The Party Committee and administration of Luong Son district’s Cu Yen commune always pay attention to caring for people with meritorious services to the country. The activities to take care of policy beneficiaries, war invalids and martyrs' families are more vibrant during holidays, New Year, or on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27), reflecting the deep gratitude of local officials and people to their sacrifices.

War invalid Trinh Huu Chien, who lives in Luong Son district’s Cu Yen commune, set a good example as a person with good production results in the locality.

July is also the peak month to carry out the gratitude movement. On this occasion, the local youth union kicked off the Youth Month with practical activities such as visiting and presenting gifts to people with meritorious services and helping households with rice and crop cultivation. The commune Women's Union mobilises members to hand over gifts and clean houses for policy beneficiaries to show their gratitude and share difficulties with them.

The movement to build the Gratitude Fund has attracted the participation of a large number of officials and people with tens of millions of VND a year. The fund is used for visiting and presenting gifts to war invalid and sick soldiers as well as policy beneficiaries during Tet (Lunar New Year) and on the War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27).

Three policy beneficiary households received funding to build their "houses of gratitude” thanks to supporting programmes to remove temporary houses. Up to now, all policy beneficiary households have solid houses. As the majority of residents work in the agricultural sector with the primary source of income from cultivation and husbandry, the commune creates favourable conditions for people with meritorious services, the poor and near-poor households to access loans from the Bank for Social Policy, helping them boost economic development.

There are many people with meritorious services and policy beneficiary households in the locality, who have set good examples in doing business thanks to the support of the State and acumen in production and business thinking.

War invalid Trinh Huu Chien, 63, who lives in Phu Ngoc hamlet is an example.  In addition to breeding bees, poultry and planting fruit trees, he also works at a goat farm. The average income of his family is 250-300 million VND (10,670-12,800 USD) per year.

Hoang Tung, Vice Chairman of the commune People's Committee, said that it is home to 82 policy beneficiary households with 85 people.

The policy beneficiary families and people with meritorious services abide by the Party and the State's regulations, becoming examples in the implementation of movements and campaigns in the community and supporting programmes to create changes in hamlets and communes, especially the National Target Programme on building new-style rural areas.

The commune has been recognised for doing well in taking care of towards war invalids and martyrs’ families for many years. All people with meritorious services and beneficiary families have living conditions equal to or higher than the average standards of local people in the same area./.
