(HBO) - In recent years, Yen Thuy district has paid attention to ensuring the implementation of children's rights through many practical and appropriate activities.
Children in Yen Thuy district’s Bao Hieu commune participate in
sports activities, contributing to physical growth.
According to the district's Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs
Department, there are currently over 18,200 children under 16 years old in Yen
Thuy district, including 226 children with special circumstances. The district
always pays attention to children living in remote and disadvantaged areas,
those with special circumstances, creating opportunities for them to develop
equally and comprehensively. Children are vaccinated under the national
expanded programme on immunisation (EPI) and those under six are granted free
health insurance cards.
Party committees and local authorities have issued many
documents relating to the protection, care, and education of children.
Communication work has been strengthened with various forms and rich content,
creating changes in awareness, action, and responsibility of families, schools,
and the entire society regarding the implementation of children's rights. The
district Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs in coordination
with World Vision Organisation implemented Vang gia, a model that aims to
improve children’s welfare, in four project communes, including Lac Sy, Lac
Luong, Huu Loi, and Bao Hieu.
Under the model, 30 children's clubs are established in the four target
communes, equipping children with self-protection skills and knowledge of preventing
and combating physical violence, while training hundreds of parents and
caregivers on positive discipline methods and perfect families. Nearly 600
children have benefitted from the programme and nearly 1,000 parents were
informed about preventing and combating physical violence against children.
Attention has been given to education work to ensure children's right to
education. The district constantly improves the quality of education and
invests in facilities and teaching equipment to meet not only the demand for
learning and entertainment of children but also the criteria for new-style
rural areas. Children go to school at the right age and all libraries at
schools are operational. Activities to improve the cultural and spiritual life
of children are organised regularly in diverse forms.
Many meaningful and practical activities were held from district to grassroots
levels on the occasion of the action month for children (June).
At the launching ceremony of the Action Month for Children and
the 2023 Children's Forum with the theme "joining hands to reduce harm to
children", local children conveyed messages about several issues that
concern them, including school violence, child neglect and safety in
cyberspace, via plays, performances, presentations, and videos.
Besides, children representatives engaged in a dialogue with leaders of
agencies of the district which enabled them to express their aspirations and
propose opinions about childcare, protection and education in the district.
Issues raised by children at the dialogue are listened to and answered
thoroughly by concerned leaders, helping them understand the issues clearly,
thereby protecting children's legitimate rights and interests.
Luu Thi Thu Hoai from Yen Thuy district’s Department of Labour, War Invalids
and Social Affairs, said thanks to theconcerted implementation of many
solutions, the care, protection and education work for children has achieved
important results. Positive changes have been recorded in the community's
awareness and responsibility in this regard while Party committees and local
authorities pay more attention to the implementation of the Law on child
protection, care and education. Children's rights are affirmed and promoted in
various forms. Children with difficult circumstances are entitled to live in an
environment that supports their comprehensive development, orphaned children
and those with disabilities fully enjoy the State's assistance.
