With the desire to give her children a joyful and useful summer, when the summer vacation begins, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien in Tan Thinh ward (Hoa Binh City) has looked for the summer activity classes for her daughter studying in grade 2. In addition to registering her child for swimming and drawing lessons, she does not forget to register a reading card for her daughter at the Provincial Library. Ms. Hien says: Not only do I guide my children to develop their talents and improve their health, but I want them to form a reading habit from an early age. The provincial library has many types of books to help the children freely choose and read good and meaningful books according to their interests. Being attracted to reading books, the children will not be drawn to video games or watching TV. Dedicated to guiding the young children to the children's reading room, Ms. Bui Thi Thuy Trang, the librarian of the children's bookstore, says: This year, the number of young readers coming to the library to borrow and read books is greater than ever. To meet the requirements of serving children's readers during the summer, the Provincial Library has arranged a spacious and airy reading room on the second floor; Rotating more books to the reading room; Promoting information and propaganda activities to introduce books; simplifying the process of renewing library reader cards... With an abundance of books and newspapers of over 13,000 books and stories rich in content and form, it truly becomes an ideal reading spot for children.
Recently, not only the Provincial Library, but also the library network in the province has received attention for development. The Provincial Library has supported the establishment of libraries, reading rooms, bookcases, and professional support for the grassroots librarians. In 2023, 1 unit was supported to establish a private library to serve the community. By 2024, 20 community bookcases have been built for the localities with ethnic minorities and extremely difficult areas. To serve the readers inside and outside the library, in 2023 and in the first months of 2024, the Provincial Library has organized 24 events to serve the readers with multi-function library vehicles, circulating books and newspapers to the grassroots libraries, resulting in over 30,000 turns of books and newspapers being served, attracting over 20,000 readers. The Provincial Library has been maintaining and organizing the activities to develop reading culture such as : The contest of reading culture ambassador for pupils and students; Coordinating with the functional agencies and the local authorities at all levels to organize Book Day and reading culture, book introduction exhibitions, story-telling competitions, painting competitions, stage plays... through the experience of reading books. The activities have attracted thousands of participants in each organized program. Most recently, the Provincial Library has coordinated with the appropriate units to organize Book Day and reading culture in Lac Son district, with the participation of a large number of children from schools...
Currently, the Provincial Library has issued 103 reader cards, including 87 cards issued to children. Since the beginning, the library has served 961 turns of readers with 3,573 turns of books, served 14,007 turns of mobile readers with 19,090 turns of books, and served 706 turns of children's readers with 2,159 turns of books. To serve children during the summer, the Provincial Library is implementing a plan to display and arrange book introduction models on the theme: "Good books need readers”, and "Good books: Eyes for Reading – Ears for listening” at the children's warehouse; writing articles, propagandizing, and introducing books posted on the Library information page.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Trung, the Deputy Director of the Provincial Library, says: With the development of information technology with a variety of entertainment types today, children can easily access and be attracted to the games on mobile phones and public electronic games affecting the children's psychology and development. To keep the children away from the useless and unhealthy games during summer vacation, the Provincial Library has prepared the best conditions not only in terms of facilities but it has also increased the human resources, arranging librarians and the employees to serve readers, who are professional, knowledgeable, and have communication skills with children to advise, guide, and support them in looking up information and choosing favorite, age-appropriate books. In the coming time, the Provincial Library will try to innovate and further improve the work of serving young readers to attract them to the library, contributing to accompanying families and schools, and joining hands in building and developing the reading culture in the community.
