A workshop on promoting the role of reputable individuals and religious dignitaries in popularising and promoting gender equality in ethnic minorities and mountainous areas was held by the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) in Hoa Binh province on July 16.
The event was co-chaired by Ha Thi Nga, member of the Party Central
Committee and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU); and Nguyen Phi
Long, alternate member of the Party Central Committee of the Communist Party
and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee. It saw the participation of
delegates from 21 northern provinces and cities.

The workshop
highlights the role of reputable individuals and religious dignitaries in
popularizing and mobilizing the implementation of gender equality in northern
ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
Prestigious individuals are those who always
take the lead in patriotic emulation movements and campaigns, and serve as a
bridge between local authorities and the people, contributing to promoting the
implementation of the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws, and
bringing substantial changes to the ethnic minority and mountainous areas,
especially benefiting women.
Addressing the event, Secretary of the
provincial Party Committee Long briefed participants on Hoa Binh’s
socio-economic situation, potential, strengths and unique cultural identity. He
valued the position and role played by women's organisationsin mobilising
the mass's strength in building and developing the country, towards achieving
the goal of gender equality in all fields.
He stressed that the provincial authorities
always pay attention to upholding the role of prestigious individuals and
religious dignitaries in popularising and promoting gender equality in northern
ethnic minorities and mountainous areas.
Delegates shared the theoretical basis and
practical experience in promoting the role of prestigious individuals, and
religious dignitaries in the work.

Nga appreciated delegates' active participation in discussions to concretise
programmes and goals on gender equality, and introduce good practices in
popularising and promoting gender equality in ethnic minority and mountainous
areas in the coming time.
The union will make recommendations and
proposals to the Party, the State, and the local authorities on solutions to
continue promoting gender equality and solving urgent problems related to women
and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, she stressed.
On the occasion, the Vietnam Women's Union
presented five charitable houses worth 250 million VND (nearly 9,800 USD) to
poor women who are members of the VWU’s chapter in Hoa Binh.
The National Science and Engineering Fair for secondary and high school students was held at Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City from March 19-21 by the Ministry of Education and Training.
As women's participation in key leadership positions of Hoa Binh province is still modest while some women in rural and mountainous areas or from ethnic minorities face limited access to policies, the provincial Party Committee's Organisation Board has advised the provincial Party Committee's Standing Board to direct Party committees at all levels and localities to pay more attention to training female personnel and creating favourable conditions for women to take over leadership and management roles, thus addressing a shortage in the number of female cadres.
The Department of Education and Training of Hoa Binh province held a conference on March 18 to review the performance of the "Safe and Happy School" Project and set out tasks for 2025. The project, funded by the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF), aims to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students. The event saw the attendance of representatives from the TFCF and 26 beneficiary schools.
