The model of intergenerational self-help club (ISC) has been expanded in Mai Chau district over recent times, contributing to sharing and motivating the disadvantaged people, especially the elderly, to improve their lives.
Representatives of the provincial Association of the Elderly and HelpAge International in Vietnam (HAI) visit and present gifts to a home health care model of the intergenerational self-help club in Tong village, Tong Dau commune (Mai Chau district).
As usual, every day, volunteers of the ISC in Tong village, Tong Dau commune in Mai Chau district, give health care for and help the elderly who are policy beneficiaries, and sick people. The work shows responsibility and spreads the positive values of the club's activities in the community.
Mai Chau district currently has nearly 9,200 elderly people participating in 16 organisations of the provincial Association of the Elderly. The district has established and maintained the effective operation of five intergenerational self-help clubs, of which four clubs were established with support resources from organisations through HAI.
With a total budget of nearly 250 million VND (10,000 USD), the clubs have purchased equipment for health care and spiritual improvement. The capital used for income-increasing activities has proven effective. The clubs of this kind in the district have maintained monthly activities, attracting many members, most of them elderly people.
With the positive signs, local authorities have provided funding to establish an intergenerational self-help club using local funds with the aim of spreading good practices in the community. To replicate and promote the effectiveness of the model, representatives of the Association of the Elderly of Mai Chau district proactively participate in meetings to discuss solutions to improve the quality and effectiveness of the model.
Every year, the staff of the clubs and the Association of the Elderly at the grassroots level and related sectors have participated in training sessions of HAI organisation on management and operation. They have been equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to advise and answer questions from members. Attention has been paid to mobilising and building a fund for caring and promoting the role of the elderly.
Vi Xuan Truong, Head of the Representative Board of the Association of the Elderly of Mai Chau district, said activities of the club have contributed to health care and promoting the role of the elderly in the community. Many activities to care for health and improve income and spiritual and cultural life have attracted the participation and response of a large of members.

Responding to the movement, local workers, public servants, and officials have proposed many creative and applicable ideas, helping spread the movement to all agencies, units, and businesses.
On September 11th, 2024, the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Hoa Binh Province issued an appeal for donations to support the people affected by natural disasters. The call was directed at the party committees, authorities, agencies, organizations, businesses, entrepreneurs, officials, party members, and the general public.
