Hanoi 1 came from two matches down to beat Khanh Hoa 3-2 in the men’s team semifinals of the 36th Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championships on May 23, to set up a final clash with Hai Duong 1.

Veteran Doan Kien Quoc and To Duc Hoang put Khanh Hoa 2-0 in front following their victories over Tran Tuan Quynh and Nguyen Anh Tu in the first two singles clashes. However, Hanoi 1 produced an impressive comeback, equalising the score 2-2, before Tran Tuan Quynh thrashed To Duc Hoang 3-0 in the fifth match to seal a final place for the capital team.

In the other semis, Hai Duong 1 also fought back to defeat the Army team 1 with a score of 3-2 and thereby sealing their qualification for the title match with Hanoi 1.

The women’s team tournament saw reigning champions Ho Chi Minh City 1 and the Army team advance into the final following their respective 3-1 wins against the Ministry of Public Security team and Hanoi.

The men’s and women’s team final matches are scheduled to take place on the evening of May 24.

This morning, the national championships will continue with matches in the men’s and women’s doubles event and the mixed doubles category.

The 36th Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championships is taking place at the 29-Yersin Gymnasium in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province, from May 22 to 27, with 136 players on 14 teams vying for seven sets of medals in the men’s and women’s singles, doubles and team events, and the mixed doubles category.
