(HBO) Over the past years, playing sports has become a regular activity in Gia Mo commune. This not only helps people improve their health but also enhances the exchange and the association between villages, neighbors, repelling the social evils.

Volleyball is the most popular sport and
thrives in Gia Mo commune (Tan Lac).
Gia Mo is considered a "cradle" to
raise many famous volleyball talents of Tan Lac district. There have been times
when the commune’s volleyball team constantly occupied the first place in the
competitions held by Tan Lac district. That is why people here are really
passionate with volleyball.
Every year, on the anniversary of the Youth
Union, Women's Union and national and lunar new year holidays, Gia Mo organizes
sports competition with some traditional sports such as tug, pushing sticks,
crossbow shooting, hitting array. On the occasion of organizing the Great
Solidarity Festival, the entire population has recently organized sports
competitions. However, the most popular sport is volleyball.
In this remote commune, there is a
traditional tournament and it plays an important part in tightening the
solidarity and ensuring the security. It is the volleyball tournament of 7
communes in Quyet Thang. Previously, Quyet Thang was a commune in Lac Son
district. In 1956, this commune was divided into 6 new communes: Ngo Luong, Lu
Son and Gia Mo belonging to Tan Lac district and 3 communes belonging to Lac
Son district: Phu Luong, Chi Dao and Settlement. "Stemming from the
passion for volleyball and with the view to tightening the solidarity and
ensuring the security, the People's Committee of the commune met and decided to
organize annual volleyball tournament. Each year, the tournament is held twice
in each commune. One for the Youth Union, the other is for the women's
volleyball team in the communes. All the tournaments attract a lot of people to
cheer. From the exchange and the acquaintances, the local people know each
other better, which helps tighten the relationship and there are no more collisions
causing the disorder of the security”, said the Chairman of Gia Mo People's
Committee.
In recent years, Lac Thuy district has paid increasing attention to investing in cultural and sports infrastructure. These grassroots facilities have attracted a large number of residents to participate in recreational and cultural activities, physical training, and community engagement, contributing to the development of cultural life and the local socio-economic growth.
In recent years, the mass physical training and sports (PTS) movement in Hoa Binh province has developed strongly and spread widely. Regardless of age, gender or occupation, people actively participate in physical training, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic sports atmosphere within the community.
Recently, Hoa Binh’s athletes have continued to show strong performances at national-level competitions. Alongside elite athletes, several standout performers have emerged from grassroots sports movements, underlining the province’s growing sports culture.
From April 26 to 27, at the Provincial Sports Arena, the Hoa Binh Provincial Karate Federation organized the 2025 Hoa Binh Open ASUDO Karate Championship.
While modern sports like volleyball and football continue to grow in popularity, traditional folk games and ethnic sports remain a vibrant and essential part of cultural life among the Muong community in Hoa Binh province.
A total of 85 young players from across Hoa Binh province recently participated in the provincial Youth Table Tennis Tournament. Organised by the provincial Centre for Youth Activities, the event was part of activities to celebrate the 94th founding anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 – 2025) and the 79th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day (March 27, 1946 – 2025).
