* Uzbekistan has decided to bid for hosting the 2030 Asian
Games, Uzbek National Olympic Committee said Monday.
* Leicester City are looking for a new coach on Monday after the
Premier League club parted company with Claude Puel, who had been in charge
for 16 months at the King Power Stadium. Puel was sacked on Sunday following
Leicester's 4-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace 24 hours earlier, a result
which leaves the club 12th in the table after a run of six defeats from their
last seven games, including an embarrassing FA Cup exit to fourth tier
Newport County.
* RB Leipzig stayed on course to finish in the Bundesliga top
four and earn a place in the Champions League next season after a late
equaliser from left back Willi Orban earned them a 1-1 home draw with
Hoffenheim on Monday. The result left Leipzig fourth on 42 points from 23
games, one behind third-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach and four ahead of
fifth-placed Wolfsburg.
* The English Football Association has charged Tottenham Hotspur
manager Mauricio Pochettino with improper conduct for confronting the referee
after Saturday's shock 2-1 Premier League defeat at Burnley. Defeat dented
third-placed Tottenham's title hopes and Pochettino appeared to vent his
frustration at referee Mike Dean in a furious confrontation.
* The US Open will continue spreading its international wings
with a Canadian course added to this year's sectional qualifying venues, the
US Golf Association announced on Monday. RattleSnake Point near Toronto will
host a qualifier on June 3, making it the third venue outside the US at which
players have a chance to earn a ticket into the US Open.
* Bulgarian police detained 44 people for public order offences
after violence broke out between fans of rival soccer teams in Sofia on
Sunday, authorities said. The skirmishes broke out before the match between
Levski Sofia and CSKA, which the home team won 1-0, as supporters threw
fireworks, missiles and other objects at each other and police. No serious
injuries were reported, police said.
* A cartoon published in an Australian newspaper that depicted
tennis star Serena Williams having a temper tantrum at the US Open last year
was not racist, Australia's media watchdog said on Monday. The caricature of
an angry Williams was condemned as racist by civil rights leaders,
celebrities and fans. Melbourne's Herald Sun newspaper and cartoonist Mark
Knight denied the image was racist and the Australian Press Council said on
Monday the cartoon did not breach its standards of practice.
* Belgian international Eden Hazard has the talent and
personality to succeed at Real Madrid if he chooses to leave Chelsea for the
La Liga giants, his former manager Jose Mourinho has said. Hazard, who will
become a free agent in June 2020, said last year it was his dream to play for
13-times European champions Real, and British media have since reported that
talks with Chelsea over a contract extension have been put on hold.
