A double by striker Ho Sy Giap helped hosts Becamex Binh Duong beat SHB Da Nang 3-1 to climb to third place on the V.League 1 rankings after matchday 2 on March 3.

The last match of the second round at the Wake-up 24/7 V.League 1-2019 took place at Go Dau Stadium on Sunday evening. Despite their home advantage, Binh Duong entered the game quite cautiously. Meanwhile, the visitors, who trounced Viettel 3-1 in their opener last week, played on the attack right from the first minutes, thanks to pressure created by active strikers Do Merlo and Duc Chinh.

However, Binh Duong opened the scoring in the 18th minute, as Da Nang’s defender Thanh Thinh suddenly scored an own goal as the ball deflected into the net from Dong Trieu’s finish.

Sy Giap (No. 27) nets a brace to help hosts Becamex Binh Duong beat Da Nang 2-1 during their V.League 1 clash at Go Dau Stadium, Binh Duong, March 3.

The goal changed the game’s situation as hosts Binh Duong strengthened attacks and found their second goal just three minutes later. Sy Giap won the ball from the midfield and braced down before accurately finishing to double the scoring for Binh Duong.

Taking the lead by two goals, the home team continued to increase the pressure on the guests but could not net an additional goal in the remaining of the first half.

The visitors fought back in the second half and were rewarded with a goal in the 57th minute, thanks to captain Minh Tam’s long-range shot, shortening the score to 2-1.

However, coach Le Huynh Duc’s side did not ride their luck as they conceded a third goal in the 75th minute. Sy Giap again beat the offside trap before scoring the winner from close range, wrapping up the game with a 3-1 win for Binh Duong.

After matchday 2, Binh Duong have four points climbing to the third place in the rankings, while Da Nang dropped to seventh place. Ho Chi Minh City temporarily take the lead with six points, followed by Hanoi FC with four points but with better goal difference than Binh Duong.
