Top-of-the table Huesca and second-placed Cadiz had earlier secured automatic promotion to La Liga while Zaragoza, Almeria and Girona clinched the other three promotion playoff berths.

* Brighton and Hove Albion made sure of avoiding relegation from the Premier League after a 0-0 home draw with Newcastle United on Monday sent them clear of the drop zone with one game remaining. Brighton have 38 points from 37 games, seven more than 18th-placed Aston Villa who have a game in hand and Bournemouth in 19th, while bottom team Norwich City have already been relegated.

* Sheffield United's Europa League qualification hopes took a hammer blow after a second-half goal from Richarlison guided visitors Everton to a 1-0 win in their Premier League clash on Monday. The result leaves United eighth in the table on 54 points from 37 games, two points behind seventh-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, who host Crystal Palace later on Monday.

* Leganes have parted ways with coach Javier Aguirre following their relegation from La Liga, the Spanish club said on Monday. Leganes, who took the relegation battle to the final day, suffered the drop following their 2-2 draw with title winners Real Madrid on Sunday.

* Qatari side Al Sadd have reached an agreement to sign Santi Cazorla after the Spanish midfielder confirmed his departure from La Liga side Villarreal, the Qatar Stars League club announced on Monday. Cazorla, 35, played his final game for Villarreal on Sunday as they ended their league campaign with a 4-0 win over Eibar to finish fifth in the standings and secure Europa League qualification.

* The Ballon d'Or will not be awarded this year for the first time in its 64-year history after the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on the football calendar, organisers France Football magazine said on Monday.

* Yum China Holdings Inc was named as an official retail food services sponsor for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the KFC operator in China said on Monday. Yum China's brands, including KFC and Pizza Hut, will be on site at the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing.

* Birmingham City midfielder Jude Bellingham has joined Germany's Borussia Dortmund on a "long-term" contract, the Bundesliga club said on Monday. British media had reported earlier this month that the 17-year-old, who was a target for Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, had signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga side for about £26 million pounds (US$32.73 million).
