(HBO) Mai Chau town (Mai Chau) currently has 25 sport clubs, 26 sport teams, 145 regular members, accounted for 25,3% of population. 400 households usually participate in sports and physical training.

Mr. Ha Van Quang, the Deputy Chairman of Mai Chau People’s Committee confirmed: In order to ensure the best conditions for developing sport competitions, Mai Chau town has stepped up the socialization of sports and physical training activities based on propagandizing, mobilizing officials and people to contribute in building facilities and equipment of sports and physical training. At present, 8/8 resident areas of the town have playgrounds which meet the standards of serving the people’s needs of playing sports. Actively participating in sports and physical training becomes one of the evaluation criteria for cultural family in the resident area, which creates the movement of every home participating in sports and physical training in Mai Chau town.

To make the sport and physical training movement expandable and highly effective, Mai Chau town actively integrate all the sports and physical training activities with the campaign "All people unite to build cultural lifestyles in the residence area”, "All people do physical exercises following the mirror of great Uncle Ho”. Mai Chau town organized many sport competitions which attracted a lot of people participating such as: Sports and Physical Training Competition of the town attracting more than 300 athletes with 5 subjects of stick pushing, crossbow shooting, athletics and football. The inter-village football competition held from 28 -30/4 attracted 8 residence area to participate. In addition, Mai Chau town joined in table tennis, badminton competitions held by Mai Chau district and got the first prize in table tennis, second prize in badminton. Besides, some ethnic traditional sports like stilts, stick pushing, tug of war and crossbow shooting are being maintained and promoted at the special occasions such as: New Year Festivals, the August Revolution, and The Independence Day. These ethnic sports have great contribution in attracting the tourists’ exploration while visiting and going sightseeing in community tourism in Mai Chau.

Attending these sports helps people keep fit, prevent and protect themselves from diseases, create joyful environment and strengthen their unity. Especially, for young people, joining in sport practices can reduce their addiction into social evils such as gambling, drugs and alcohol. Sung A Dat, Poom Coong village shared: In his village, from the old people and the children choose one suitable to participate. The old people can play volleyball, the women play badminton or volleyball, and the young people play football. Every afternoon, after a hard working day, everyone will gather at the village’s playgrounds to join in their favourite sports. The cheers of the athletes and fans create joyful and exciting atmosphere. I am passionate about football. After each match, I feel very comfortable. Football helps me reduce working stress and improve my health.

85 players compete at Hoa Binh province Youth Table Tennis Tournament
