With the cold weather but dazzling sunshine in the early days of the Lunar New Year, the capital city is adorned with the purple and white colour of bauhinia flowers.

Bauhinia flowers first appeared in Hanoi in the early 1960s as the planners tried planting bauhinia trees on several trees and parks.

Bauhinia flowers do not have a scent. Each flower consists of 4-5 wings, pink pistil and purple veins.

Bauhinia flowers symbolise sincerity, faithfulness and constancy in love.

Purple and white bauhinia flowers are popular in Hanoi’s corners.

Many locals and visitors want to capture beautiful photos with this type of flowers.

In recent years, bauhinia flowers with a brighter purple colour have been planted on several streets.

Newly planted trees have brought a lively and romantic atmosphere to the capital city.
