(HBO) - Continuing the success of the project "Supporting disadvantaged elderly people through replicating Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs in Vietnam” (Project VIE070), phase 2 (Project VIE085) continues to be implemented in Hoa Binh province for 3 years (from July 2023 - November 2025) with the goal of replicating 27 more Intergenerational Self-Help clubs in the districts and in the city. Thereby, it has been contributing to taking care of and promoting the role of the elderly in the community, especially for the elderly who belong to the poor households with especially difficult circumstances.


The members of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club in Long village, Yen Tri commune (Yen Thuy) have received free initial medical examination, treatment and medicine.


Being established at the end of August, the Intergenerational Self-Help club of Long village, Yen Tri commune (Yen Thuy) has attracted 50 members, the core being the elderly. The club operates in 8 main activities to provide information, implement a variety of caring activities, and promote the role of the elderly. The club has mobilized the resources through the "Golden Heart” fund to support and care for the elderly and the people in difficult circumstances in the area. They have been coordinating with other benefactors to organize initial medical examination and treatment and free medicine for the members.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Han, the Chairman of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club of Long village, Yen Tri commune, says: "Participating in the club activities, the members are excited by the useful and practical activities. The club's management board continues to innovate its content and methods of activities to attract the participation of the members and spread the effectiveness of the club's activities to the community. They have been paying attention to the elderly members, especially the elderly people with difficult circumstances. They have been mobilizing the resources from the organizations, individuals, and benefactors to give gifts to encourage and help the elderly improve their material and spiritual lives.”

Project VIE085 is funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) through HelpAge International in Korea (HAK) and the technical support from HelpAge International in Vietnam (HAI), Central Vietnam Elderly Association deployed in Hoa Binh province. The project has brought the direct benefits to nearly 1,500 elderly people, many of whom are in difficult circumstances. The project includes the following main goals: Increasing the income, improving health and participation of the disadvantaged elderly through supporting the establishment and capacity building of Intergenerational Self-Help clubs; Improving the capacity of the Elderly Association at all levels on how to establish, manage and operate the Intergenerational Self-Help clubs; Calling on the relevant parties to have more resources to support and replicate the Intergenerational Self-Help clubs. Implementing Project VIE085, Intergenerational Self-Help clubs have their capacity enhanced to be able to self-manage and provide comprehensive services to disadvantaged groups in the areas where the clubs are located. The localities have improved capacity in establishing, managing and operating Intergenerational Self-Help clubs. They have been communicating/promoting the club model, advocating for more resources to support and replicate the clubs,

Last August, the Provincial Association of the Elderly coordinated with the Central Vietnam Association of the Elderly and the sponsors to organize training to equip necessary skills for the leaders of the Association of the Elderly at all levels and the members of the Board of Directors of the Intergenerational Self-Help clubs. Accordingly, the learners can access and share information about the aging population; the operating principles, the organizational structure, the board of directors and members, the areas of activity, the indicators to be achieved by the club, the good practices; Improving the capacity of the officials of the Elderly Association at all levels and the management board on establishing, managing and operating the model of Intergenerational Self-Help clubs (organizing club activities, managing books, planning activities with the participation of the stakeholders, reporting, monitoring and evaluation...).

Mr. Bui Tuan Hai, the Chairman of the Provincial Elderly Association, says: "Project VIE085 is implemented in the province to support and help the disadvantaged elderly through participating in activities at the Intergenerational Self-Help clubs. In the coming time, the provincial Elderly Association hopes that the appropriate authorities at all levels will pay attention to coordination and create conditions to continue replicating and establishing the clubs inside and outside the project. Through club activities, they have been mobilizing the resources to take care of and promote the role of the elderly. Thereby, it has been contributing to improving the quality of life of the elderly in the poor households and difficult circumstances, helping the elderly to live joyfully - live healthily - live happily.
