(HBO) – In the first months of this year, amidst the complicated developments of COVID-19 pandemic, Mai Chau district has managed to maintain stable socio-economic development thanks to the proactiveness and flexibility in implementing policies as well as the determination and solidarity of the Party organisation, administration and locals in the district.

In the first nine months of 2020, total production value of the district was estimated at nearly 2 trillion VND (86.39 million USD), fulfilling 65.55 percent of the yearly target, and equivalent to 114.27 percent of the same period last year.

Of the figure, the agro-forestry-fisheries sector accounted for 665 billion VND, completing 66.63 percent of the target, while the industry-construction and handicraft generated 677 billion VND, and trade-tourism-service fetched 650 billion VND.

Despite the impacts of COVID-19, the industry-handicraft sector in the district still expanded stably with 744 establishments. Meanwhile, in agricultural production, the district supported communes to implement 20 farming models at total cost of 3.5 billion VND, including the cultivation of out-of-season cabbage in Thanh Dua commune, Korean melon in Xam Khoe commune, watermelon in Mai Ha and Dong Tan communes, and white turnip in Pa Co commune.

Along with directing the implementation of socio-economic development goals, the district has guided sectors and localities to carry out measures to prevent and fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the drastic engagement of all-level administrations and the coordination of sectors, agencies and organisations from district to grassroots levels, Mai Chau has effectively implemented the "dual targets” of preventing the pandemic and developing socio-economy. Despite the adverse impacts of COVID-19, Mai Chau continues to be a favourite destination for tourists. In the first nine months of this year, the district welcomed 65,785 visitors, including 11,909 foreigners and 53,876 Vietnamese.

Total revenue from tourism activities reached over 48 billion VND. Compared to the same period last year, downturn was seen in both the number of visitors and revenue, but the results still made Mai Chau a bright spot in the tourism map of the province./.
