During the last days of 2024, work on the Canh Tang reservoir, a key irrigation project in both the province and the country and the northern region, proceeded intensively. Hundreds of workers and engineers have been striving to complete the main components by April 30, and finalise the entire project by 2026.
Canh Tang reservoir work.
Funded with nearly 3.919 trillion VND (154 million USD)
from the state budget, the reservoir will provide stable water supply for
irrigation and drainage, benefiting Lac Son and Yen Thuy districts.
It is also expected to spur eco-tourism and urban development in the area. With
a capacity of 91 million cubic meters, the project includes a 53-meter-high main
dam, auxiliary dams, and a 29-kilometre water pipeline system.
Significant progress has been made, including achieving key design elevations and completing flood spillways, water intake structures, and management facilities. Local authorities, particularly in Lac Son, are expediting land clearance and
compensation to maintain construction schedules.
Inspecting the site, provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Phi Long emphasised the
project's strategic importance. He urged contractors to focus resources to meet the April deadline and called
for expedited resettlement and land-related procedures to support affected
residents.
The project aims to mark a milestone for upcoming Party congresses while
enhancing regional development and water resource management.
