Officials in Mong Hoa commune of Hoa Binh city review of the commune’s socio-economic development plan.
Mong Hoa commune enjoys significant advantages, including an industrial cluster, an industrial park, and numerous enterprises that have actively contributed to the shift in the local economic structure. Local production facilities alone have provided employment for thousands of workers, offering relatively stable incomes.
Infrastructure development has been a key focus, with investments in the Mong Hoa Industrial Park, the Hoa Lac - Hoa Binh Road, and National Highway 6, all of which are now operational. Regional connection roads are currently under construction, and substantial investments have been made in transportation, irrigation, health care, cultural, and educational infrastructure, opening up great opportunities for the transformation of the commune. On December 31, 2021, the commune was officially recognised as an advanced new-style rural area.
Over the years, the local Party, administration, and residents have concentrated their efforts on socio-economic development, achieving a number of significant outcomes. Infrastructure has progressively improved, with a strong emphasis on industrial growth, handicrafts, and industries such as plywood production, wood processing, non-fired brick manufacturing, furniture production, mechanical engineering, and garment manufacturing. In 2024, the total value of industrial and handicraft production in the commune reached 580 billion VND (22.75 million USD), surpassing the local People's Council’s target by 3.01%, reflecting a 20.83% increase compared to 2023. The commune has effectively managed land use planning and has actively promoted environmental protection, with 95% of waste collected. Work on land clearance continues for several infrastructure projects, including the Binh Phu Industrial Park and the WB8 project.
Under the leadership of the Party Committee and with oversight from the People's Council, the local People's Committee has actively directed officials and residents to implement planned tasks in full. This includes supporting the cultivation of crops and the raising of livestock, creating optimal conditions for agricultural and forestry production, and converting water-scarce areas into arable land for crops such as sugarcane and lemongrass.
The economic growth has translated into improved material and spiritual living standards for the local population, while cultural and social development has been on a positive trajectory. Poverty reduction and social welfare have been a priority. The proportion of the population enrolled in health insurance has reached 95.5%, and three out of four schools have attained national standards. Work is currently underway to upgrade facilities at Dan Hoa Primary and Secondary School to meet the required standards. The commune still has 21 poor households (1.14%) and 44 near-poor households (2.39%).
Regarding urban development standards for a tier-2 city, the commune has met 11 out of 13 criteria, including healthcare and educational facilities, land for educational and cultural purposes, electricity supply, public transport infrastructure, and waste management. The remaining two criteria - green public spaces per capita and the density of the main drainage systems - are currently being addressed.
In the future, Mong Hoa will focus on mobilising all available resources to ensure comprehensive economic and social development. Efforts will be made to promote economic growth, with an emphasis on industrial, small-scale industrial, commercial, and service sectors. There will also be a continued focus on vocational training for the local workforce, as well as enhancing the quality of education, health care, and social welfare. Administrative reforms will be further strengthened to ensure efficient staff allocation to meet local needs, while political security and social order will continue to be maintained. The commune aims to complete the remaining urban development criteria in order to achieve recognition as a ward within this year.
