(HBO) – Secretary of the Hoa Binh provincial Party Committee Bui Van Tinh recently held a working session with a delegation of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi led by its chief representative Shi Rui Qi to discuss business potential and opportunities in the province. Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Bui Van Khanh also attended the event.

Tinh introduced the province’s potential and advantages in agriculture development, especially clean farming, to supply for Hanoi market, first of all 8,000ha of citrus fruits. He wished that Taiwan would open a processing facility for the products in the locality, adding that Taiwan’s agriculture is growing strongly with new and quality varieties of high economic value. Therefore, he urged Taiwan to invest in not only farm produce processing but also new varieties. Moreover, the climate in mountainous communes in Hoa Binh is similar to the temperate zone so that Taiwanese firms could consider planting chayotes and purple garlic.

The official called for Taiwanese investment in one of the 8 industrial zones in the locality to attract Taiwanese investors. Tinh also called for attention to the fact that Hoa Binh is home to scenic landscapes, especially Hoa Binh lake which is planned to be a key national tourist area in combination with fish farming and real estate development. He suggested Taiwan consider investing in the Hoa Binh 4 bridge in the form of official development assistance (ODA).

Speaking at the event, the head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi thanked the provincial authorities for their warm welcome and said bilateral ties have been further tightened and become more effectively. He said since 2015, the Taiwanese government has launched the new Look South policy to facilitate domestic investment in Southeast Asian countries, with Vietnam as a key investment destination. He believed that there will be more Taiwanese projects in Vietnam in the near future while existing projects will be expanded. He said Taiwan is ready to provide preferential ODA loans for Hoa Binh to build the Hoa Binh 4 bridge and wished that the province would consult the Transport Ministry about the significance and necessity of the project to speed up its progress.

About agricultural production, he supported the three directions for cooperation, which are clean agriculture, high-tech farming of orchid and rice, and animal husbandry. Taiwan will send delegations to the province to study business opportunities in agriculture and work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to add Hoa Binh to the list of items in the Vietnam-Taiwan agriculture cooperation. Taiwan will also consider investing in industry and tourism, Shi said.

The representative added that Taiwan welcomes and creates favourable conditions for Hoa Binh to send delegations to Taiwan to promote investment.

He expressed his belief that bilateral ties will be closer and the Hoa Binh 4 bridge project will be a good start for the Taiwan-Hoa Binh ties in the new period./.
