In 2017, the provincial People’s Committee approved the building of 13 urgent resettlement areas to relocate 488 families from high-risk areas. Of the number, there were five areas in Da Bac district, 3 in Kim Boi, 1 each in Tan Khu and Mai Chau districts and 3 in Hoa Binh city.

Although there were some difficulties in arranging capital for the work, to date, construction of essential facilities in 11 resettlement areas has been completed and families have moved in to settle down.

Da Bac and Tan Lac districts have completed the relocation of target people to those areas. Meanwhile, Kim Boi district has moved 85 out of the 91 households in high risk areas and Hoa Binh city - 29 out of 138 families.

At the meeting, the People’s Committees in districts and Hoa Binh city reported the progress of the resettlement construction project and population relocation. They said the amount of capital allocated for building resettlement areas was lower than the volume of work already completed by contractor. The pace of construction and procedures failed to meet requirement. Additional costs also incurred during the process.

Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Quang said under the guidance of the provincial People’s Committee, the construction speed of resettlement areas was improved, as residents in Da Bac and Tan Lac have moved to the new location. However, in general, progress was lagging behind schedule.

He instructed relevant agencies to enhance coordination to remove obstacles in order to complete construction of the resettlement areas. Those agencies and leaders of People’s Committees of related districts and cities were asked to push forward the pace of construction and ensure quality of the resettlement areas, and report their work to the provincial People’s Committee before July 30./.
