Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Bui Van Tinh inspects fish cages of Cuong Thinh Service Construction Trading Limited Company in Thai Thinh commune, Hoa Binh city.

There are 4,300 fish cages in Hoa Binh city and four districts, with a total area of 260,000 sq.m, 800 cages higher than the target set in the resolution issued by the standing board of the provincial Party Committee. The cages have generated jobs for more than 5,000 labourers, 2,200 labourers higher than the number stated in the resolution. There are 41 farms with over 20 cages each, and two others with more than 100 cages each. Besides, seven businesses have received certificates for making joint ventures with local farmers to raise cage fish in accordance with VietGAP standards, providing over 2,000 tonnes of fish for the market per year. Three chains of Da River fish production and consumption in Hanoihave been set up, with about 500 cages. The province has successfully implemented the food safety chain model and two projects on Da River fish production cooperation towards value chains in Hoa Binh city and four districts, with 300 cages and 70 households involved, using capital from the new-style rural area programme. Hoa Binh has also organised 45 classes on cage fish farming on the lake for 1,500 rural labourers and provide technical guidance for more than 2,000 local farmers. The recognition of the brand name of Da River fish and shrimp by the National Office of Intellectual Property has created conditions for production development and consumer market expansion, towards higher product values and exports.

Tinh stressed the need to assess the implementation of Resolution No. 12/NQ-TU by the provincial Party Committee’s standing board to make adjustments and supplements, and especially to support the training, disease prevention and product consumption.

He also called for efforts to conduct tourism development planning in tandem with cage fish farming and shrimp catching on Hoa Binh Lake, meeting domestic demands and looking towards exports.

Zoning off cage fish farms must be completed in 2019, he said, highlighting the close management of breeding sources, towards on-the-spot production of varieties, in order to control quality and reduce production cost.

Communication work should be stepped up to encourage households to establish and participate in groups of cooperatives and cooperatives in order to meet requirements of capital, material supply, technical transfer and product consumption, looking towards on-the-spot product processing.
