(HBO) - The People’s Committee of Yen Thuy district held a conference on October 18 to review the 10 years of implementing the National Target Programme on New-style Rural Area Building in the 2010-2020 period.

Leaders of the Yen Thuy district People’s Committee present certificates of merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding performance in the new-style rural area building programme in the 2010-2020 period.

After a decade of implementing the programme, Yen Thuy has had five out of the 12 communes, or 41.6 percent, recognised as new-style rural areas. On average, each commune has finished 14.92 out of the 19 criteria of the programme, up 11.76 percent compared to 2010.

At the end of 2018, no commune in the district completed less than eight criteria. It is estimated that there will be no commune reaching less than 10 criteria by the end of 2019.

So far, the district has upgraded 182.98km of rural roads, while concretising 100 percent of the village and commune roads, and cementing and asphalting 76.19 percent of the roads’ surface. As many as 192 irrigation works have been upgraded and repaired.

The district has mobilized over 2.2 trillion VND (946 million USD) for the programme in 10 years, including over 71 billion VND from the central budget, nearly 500 billion VND from the local budget, and more than 716 billion VND from the community.

It is estimated that in 2019, the average per capita income of locals will reach 35.46 million VND, 2.31 times that in 2010. The poverty rate is expected to reduce to 11.36 percent, down 11.16 times compared to that in 2011.

In the 2021-2025 period, the district targets 75 percent of the total communes competing all criteria of the programme and no commune finishing less than 15 criteria. The district will strive to become a new-style rural area. Meanwhile, it expects four communes to become advanced new style rural areas and one model rural area. It will strive to basically complete all the necessary works meeting the requirements of production development and locals’ daily activities.

At the conference, the district People’s Committee honoured 16 collectives, seven households and 16 individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing the emulation movement of "Yen Thuy people join hands in building new-style rural areas” in the 2010-2020 period./.
