(HBO) – Kim Boi district of Hoa Binh on November 12 held a ceremony to announce the collective trademark of Muong Dong orange and pomelo.

Bui Duc Hinh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee hands over the certificate of collective trademark for Muong Dong orange and pomelo to Kim Boi district.

According to the district People’s Committee, the district currently has over 576 hectares of orange farms, mostly in the communes of Tu Son (71 hectares), Vinh Tien (174 hectares), Kim Son (122 hectares), Nam Thuong (60.6 hectares), and My Hoa (117 hectares).

With a yield of over 24 tonnes per hectares, the annual output of the district is more than 9,100 tonnes, generating over 182.1 billion VND of revenue.

Meanwhile, total local pomelo farm area is over 770 hectares with production of 19 tonnes per hectares and output of 6,295 tonnes per year. Earnings from pomelo in 2019 are estimated to exceed 157.3 billion VND.

Main pomelo varieties in the district include "Dien”, Tan Lac red-flesh and green-skinned pomelo. Revenue from pomelo is about 500 million VND per hectare.

After two years of launching, the Muong Dong orange and pomelo trademark has been recognised and granted a collective trademark certificate by the National Office of Intellectual Property. The Farmers’ Union of Kim Boi is the owner of the trademark.

In order to develop the brand, the Kim Boi People’s Committee has plans to review and complete the planning of orange and pomelo farming areas, while upgrading the infrastructure system, especially the irrigation and net house, as well as processing area and production introduction showrooms.

The district will expand the farming area of orange and pomelo under VietGap and organic standards, with a target of more than 200 hectares in 2020 and over 500 hectares in 2025.

Meanwhile, the locality will continue promoting the products in local tourism destinations and through trade promotion activities such as trade fairs, conference, festival, and via the Internet and the media.

On the occasion, contracts were signed among representatives of production cooperatives, the owners of the trademark and three companies on the sales of the products.

At the ceremony, the People’s Committee of Kim Boi also presented certificates of merit to 13 collectives and 25 individuals who made outstanding achievements in developing citrus trees in the locality.

Within the event’s framework, more than 30 pavilions were set up to introduce local orange and pomelo as well as typical products of localities across the district in two days./.
