(HBO) – Safe agricultural production applying high technology in a bid to introduce quality products meeting food safety requirements has been rolling out in Lac Thuy district and proved effective.

The model to grow melon in plastic greenhouses of Truong Thinh Hi-tech Agricultural Investment JSC in Thong Nhat commune applying high technology in Lac Thuy district rakes in high economic value and quality compared to traditional production methods.

The company built five greenhouses of 2,000 sq.m each on an area of 34 ha, which specialises in growing Japan’s melon Ichiba. All the greenhouses are self-operating via a control centre and applying modern cultivation techniques. After one year, the model brought about high economic value and quality amongst all products while meeting food safety regulations.

Nguyen Van Quang from the company said that based on the GlobalGAP standards, the company keeps a close watch on the quality and use of water, plant growing media, seeds, fertiliser and technical procedures.

Workers have undergone training and received food safety certificates. Ichiba melon has earned positive feedback. Technical workers examine quality of each fruit after harvest and paste origin tracing stamp with QR code. At present, the fruits have been sold at fruit shops and supermarkets in Hanoi, Hai Phong and Thai Binh. Products with origin tracing stamps have high prospects for exports in the future. The model brings in nearly 400 million VND (17,570 USD) in profit annually.

Vice head of the district’s office of agriculture and rural development Hoang Dinh Chinh said that local authorities encourage firms to operate in the district. In addition to Truong Thinh, the Hoa Binh GAP JSC has built a 1-ha greenhouse to grow melon varieties. Firms in other sectors also proactively works to apply achievements in science and technology and raise public awareness of organic agriculture to ensure food safety for high economic value, he added.

 

Over the years, the district has paid heed to agricultural development, issued incentives for investment and called on co-operatives to transform. It also worked to merge small fields into larger ones and apply scientific and technological achievements in production, as well as urge local farmers to grow products of good quality which ensure food safety requirements, towards the safe and sustainable agricultural development./.
