(HBO) - Mr. Bui Manh Cuong, the Chairman of Mien Doi Communal People's Committee (Lac Son) said: "Promoting hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the area, recently, the communal authorities at all levels have actively propagated and raised the people’s awareness, giving the the suitable plants and seeds, in which, they have been orienting them to develop husbandry and forestry trees which are suitable to the natural conditions of the commune. 


The model of raising buffaloes and cows of Mr. Bui Van Hung's family from Than Tren hamlet, Mien Doi commune (Lac Son) gives an income of 30-40 million VND a year. 

At the same time, having taken the advantage of support of the investment capital sources, the poverty reduction policies, the commune have been focusing on building and completing the infrastructure and roads in order to serve production, the convenient goods trade, and the local socio-economic development.Mien Doi commune has the mountainous terrain so it is difficult to cultivate, the production land is limitted, there is a lack of flat ground for cultivation, the climate is harsh in winter, it is difficult to travel, it is far from the center, so the implementation of plans for the economic development faces many difficulties. In addition, the farming practices are purely agricultural, the people's awareness is still limited, it is difficult to access the new techniques and technologies, and there is a shortage of young labor force in the locality. To overcome the shortcomings, the commune has paid more attention to the development of livestock and forestry. Since 2021, the whole commune has planted 51.5 ha of new production forests, mainly acacia, bamboo, bambusoideae, bambusa nutans and Arundinaria. The management and prevention of forest fires and forest protection have been paid attention to, they regularly patrol and control the forests. In recent years, there has been no case of deforestation or encroachment on forest resources, the protected forest area has been preserved.

Currently, the whole commune raises 1,578 buffaloes and cows, 2,140 pigs and poultry of over 25,000 heads, and 920 sets of honey bees. The vaccination, disinfection, training, technical support for livestock, and the prevention of hunger and cold for livestock are carried regularly out. Visiting the livestock model of Mr. Bui Van Hung's family in Than Tren hamlet, Mr. Hung said: "From the production loan of 15 million VND from the Bank for Social Policies and the borrowings from my relatives and friends, my family has been invested in building a closed breeding model, so far there are 4 buffaloes and 2 cows, and we have escaped poverty sustainably with the income of about 30-40 million VND a year.

With the natural conditions of the high mountains, cool climate, beekeeping for honey in the commune has strongly developed, increasing year by year, the product has positively been received by the market, bringing high economic efficiency, becoming the main source of income for many households. Currently, in the whole commune there are more than 100 households raising bees for honey, many households raise more than 50 sets of bees, bringing the significant economic benefits. Beekeeping for honey has developed throughout the commune, mainly in the hamlets of Than Tren, Than Duoi and Voi Thuong... The households regularly exchange experiences to improve productivity and quality of Mien Doi honey products. Currently, the price of honey ranges from 150,000 to 200,000 VND a liter, the product is increasingly popular, creating a brand and reputation in the market. 

Supporting the local people to develop production, the commune has been deploying the preferential and policy loans through the credit and entrustment channels. The total outstanding loans from Bank for the Social Policies reaches nearly 18 billion VND, the outstanding loans from Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development is over 3.5 billion VND, there are no bad debts snd overdue debts, mainly there are the loans to the poor, the near-poor households, the production and business, employment. In the whole commune, there are 16 savings and loan groups with over 500 borrowers. Many loans have been efficiently promoting, building livestock models, bringing the stable income for the households. 

Taking advantage of the support capital sources, the commune has actively invested in building infrastructure, repairing the traffic routes and irrigation works. Since 2021, the commune has hardened and concreted 350 meters of road in Thuong Rieng hamlet, mobilized the people to dredge canals and clear traffic corridors. In addition, the commune continues building an economic development model, appointing the qualified staff to support production techniques and orient the development of the model in accordance with soil conditions and strengths, ensuring the effectiveness and sustainability for the local people, contributing to the successful implementation of the local socio-economic development goals and plans. Up to now, the average income of the whole commune has reached 22.5 million VND a person a year, the rate of the poor households accounts for 43.7% according to multidimensional standards.
