(HBO) - From a district with a fragmented agricultural production, Tan Lac has become a specialised agricultural production area thanks to the application of science and technology and supporting policies of the Government. Currently, it has 16 cooperatives and cooperative groups with 1,150 ha of red fresh pomelo, 1,100 ha of sugarcane and 760 fish farming cages. All cooperatives’ products obtain VietGAP certificates and five are certified by "One Commune, One Product” programme.
Farming chayote in Tan Lac district’s Quyet Chien commune has
brought about stable income for local residents.
As the gateway connecting the northwestern provinces with the capital city of
Hanoi, the district has different terrains suitable to various types of fruits
and vegetables. Tan Lac also has the potential to develop community-based
tourism, ecotourism, and plant forestry trees, medicinal plants and Shan Tuyet
tea.
Bui Duc Hien, head of the district's Division of Agriculture and Rural
Development, said taking advantage of the locality, the district has
concertedly implemented policy solutions to attract investment to the
agricultural sector, including supporting residents, cooperatives and
cooperative groups to access credit or attending training courses for science
and technology transfer.
It also restructures the agricultural sector in association with new-style rural
building, changing and developing the crop structure towards safe and efficient
production, meeting the market’s demand.
In order to promote the sale of products in both domestic and foreign markets,
the district People's Committee signed a cooperation agreement to develop a
chain of production and sale of red fresh pomelos with FUSA Organic Agriculture
joint Stock Company, as well as inked a memorandum of understanding with
Lovefarm Organic Pharmaceutical joint Stock Company on the deployment of a medicinal
plant cultivation area and the construction of a processing area for medicinal
herbs.
Besides domestic consumption, 49 tonnes of sugarcane have been
shipped to the European Union (EU). Red fresh pomelos have been granted
collective marks by the National Office of Intellectual Property. It is
expected that in November 2022, the first container of the fruit will be
exported to the EU market.
The livestock industry has gradually transformed from small-scale production to
concentrated, bio-secure one. Regarding aquaculture, the total production in
the district is estimated at 1,100 tonnes.
The district's Party Organisation will focus its direction on the application
of scientific and technological advances in the agricultural sector in the
future. Farmers, cooperatives, and cooperative groups will be encouraged to
apply organic agriculture in association with the development of different
types of tourism models. The One Commune One Product (OCOP) Programme will be
promoted along with new-style rural areas building. Environmental protection
and sustainable development will be associated with socio-economic development
plans of each sector. The district will work to make agriculture its spearhead
economic sector./
