(HBO) – Mai Chau district of the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh has been marshalling all resources to ensure traffic smoothness, helping to improve living standard of the locals while strengthening economic development.

The road connects Diem and Chieng hamlets in Tan Thanh commune has become an "artery” to help the far-flung localities connect to other vicinities while opening up a new opportunity and condition for development.

The Pa Co - Pa Hang Lon route in Pa Co commune is repaired and upgraded, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.

According to Bui Van Kiem, Chairman of Tan Thanh Commune People's Committee, the new route from Diem to Chieng hamlets not only breaks the "isolation” of the localities, but also helps to improve living standard of the locals in the particularly difficult area.

Depsite having many challanges and difficulties, Mai Chau district has always paid attention and mobilised all resources to invest in the development of the transport system. Notably, the district has effectively implemented the project on strengthening rural roads in the period of 2021 - 2025.

Currently, the district has nearly 603 km of roads, excluding national and provincial ones. Of this, there are 50.77 km of asphalt roads, 380.31 km of cement concrete roads, 11.03 km of graded roads, and 160.84 km of dirt roads.

In 2022 and the first quarter of 2023, the district opened 6.548 km of new roads. The number of concreted and asphalted roads is expected reach 32.136 km. With the efforts of the locality, the district has reduced the number of perilous roads from four to one.

In addition, Mai Chau district currently has 45 bridges with a total length of more than 1,333 metres and six overflow road sections. Of this, the district People's Committee manages five bridges, the commune people's committee manages 40 bridges.

In 2022, the district built two new bridges and prepared two others. In fact, the road and bridge works in the district basically meet the travel needs of people and means of transport.

However, there are still some weak bridges and some roads that have not been maintained, repaired or invested. Besides, a number of projects have been invested for a long time, the designed load is small, not suitable for the current load and traffic volume. At some bridge and road locations, there is still an uncontrolled situation of overloaded vehicles.

According to statistics, as of March 2023, the whole district had nine out of the 15 communes that meet the traffic criteria in building new-style rural development, including those with difficult socio-economic conditions such as Xam Khoe, Bao La, Hang. Kia, Pa Co.

The district also has two communes that meet the traffic criteria in the construction of advanced new-style rural development. Along with investment resources for traffic from the state budget, in 2022 and the first months of 2023, Mai Chau district has mobilised manpower to maintain, repair and upgrade traffic system in the locality.

Many roads have been repaired regularly, such as Lau - Na Hi (Mai Ha), Noong Luong - Hieng (Thanh Son), Pa Co - Pa Hang Lon (Pa Co), Hang Kia - Thung Man (Kia Cave), Cun Pheo - Tau Na (Cun Pheo), contributing to promoting local socio-economic development./.
