(HBO) – The mountainous commune of Hung Thi in Lac Thuy district has seen positive changes thanks to the effective implementation of investment programmes and projects in the locality. Along with the maximum absorption of support policies from Programme 135 - a government programme for the most vulnerable communes in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, over the years, the locality has effectively carried out the new-style rural area building programme. As a result, in 2020, it was recognised as a new-style rural commune.
The transport system
of Hung Thi commune in Lac Thuy district has been upgraded, meeting the
traveling and trading demands of locals.
The 5.8-km road from the centre of Hung Thi to Nieng village has been cemented
and a system of roads and bridges have been built and upgraded, facilitating
traveling activities of locals.
Bui Van Du, head of Nieng village, said that along with the smooth transport
system, local schools have also been built. This has motivated locals to
transform their farming structure and improve income.
Currently, the economic structure of Hung Thi has been transformed with
agro-forestry-fisheries making up 47.1%, handicraft-construction 24%, and
service and other sectors 28.9%.
The annual food production of the locality reached over 2,430 tonnes. The
commune has about 20 bee keeper households who produce about 14.2 tonnes of bee
honey each year.
Meanwhile, the area of production forest is kept stable at 1,430 hectares with
coverage rate of 62.4%, generating 60-70 million VND (2,985 USD) of income for
farmers.
Currently, Hung Thi is focusing on developing production forest models and
expanding citrus farms. It is also fostering connections with businesses to
ensure stable consumption of their products.
Secretary of the communal Party Committee Bui Minh Tham said that from a
commune that was usually isolated by floodwater in rainy season, Hung Thi has
been rising thanks to the timely support of the Party and State and the
solidarity of the local Party Organisation, administration and residents.
To date, two out of
10 villages in the commune have fulfilled all criteria for a model new-style
rural area, while the per capita income has reached 51.1 million VND per year,
and the ratio of poor households has been reduced to 18.13%, Tham said, adding
that the health care and education services quality as well as the cultural
life of locals have greatly improved.
The people of Hung Thi are working hard to rise up and sustainably get rid of
poverty, enjoying a new life, stated Tham.
