(HBO) – In Thanh Son commune (Luong Son), there are more than 95% of the ethnic minorities. In recent years, the Party committees and communal authorities have always focused on implementing the programs, projects and policies for the socio-economic development and improving people's living standards.


The households in Thanh Ha village, Thanh Son commune (Luong Son) have been growing Dien pomelos according to Vietgap standards, bringing high economic efficiency.

Through the integration of investment capital of the National Target Program, the commune has been propagating and mobilizing the people to promote their internal resources to develop the family economy. Implementing the policies on supporting production, the Communal People's Committee has guided the households to establish a cooperative group for producing Dien pomelo in Thanh Ha village with 34 members, planting more than 50 hectares of Dien pomelo. It is necessary to focus on production according to Vietgap process, ensuring the food safety, Dien pomelo products in Thanh Ha are of good productivity and quality. From this model, the commune has expanded to more than 100 hectares of Dien pomelos and red pomelos in the hamlets, and curently there are more than 80 hectares having been harvested. In 2023, with financial support from the District’s People's Committee, the technical support from the agricultural sector to care for according to the safe production standards, the commune has been trying to build the brand name for Dien pomelos to export. In addition, the commune has been guiding the people to continue developing the key crops such as corn, medicinal herbs and spices; in which the maize area is over 220 ha; the area of medicinal plants spices is over 40 ha.

Along with supporting people to improve the quality of the key crops, the commune has been mobilizing the people to develop the farm model and forest economy. Ms. Bui Thi Nguyet, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Son Commune says: For the forest economy, the commune has been guiding the local people to strengthen the care, the protection and the structure of main plant varieties for the forest to develop well. It is necessary to increase the forest area converted to large timber business and implement the silvicultural measures to increase the productivity of the planted forests. In 2023, the commune has completed the plantation area of over 75 hectares.

Not only are they supported with seeds and capital to develop production, every year, many households in the areas of ethnic minorities and mountainous ones, the poor households, and the rural employees have been sent to participate in the training courses, the vocational training courses and the knowledge training courses so that they can apply science and technology to production, improving the product quality and cost. Thereby, many households have boldly developed the models of large-scale farming and livestock farming. Currently, in the commune, there are 2 large-scale livestock farms, namely the pig farm of Mrs. Ngo Hong Gam's household from De Cau hamlet and Mr. Ha Ngoc Lam's chicken farm from Yen Lich village. The large-scale livestock farms have contributed to creating jobs and stable incomes for nearly 30 employees in the commune. In particular, many households have been combining agriculture with the development of services and handicrafts such as opening mills, making Chit brooms, transportation services...Along with taking care of economic development, the policies on education, health, culture, law, and the policies for reputable people among the ethnic minorities have been paid attention to. Through emulation movements and campaigns, the commune has been mobilizing the people to well implement the guidelines and policies of the Party and State, abolishing the outdated practices, uniting to build the cultural life. The Vice Chairman of the Communal People's Committee adds: In Thanh Son commune, there are 3 villages with the Catholic households with 44 households and 131 people, mainly in Dong Chom village, Cap and Hop Thung villages. Over the past years, the Party committees and authorities have always promptly grasped the people's thoughts and legitimate aspirations. They have been upholding and promoting the role of the illage chiefs, the reputable people, and the religious believers and dignitaries. They have been focusing on building the regulations and conventions of t5he villages to build the cultural life. Therefore, the Catholic families in the area have been actively participating in the local activities, promoting their role in the movements of patriotic emulation and a good and religious life.

Thanks to promoting the development of economic development, in 2022, the rate of the poor households in the whole commune decreased to 6.29%, the ratec of near-poor households went up to 5.59%; per capita income reached 48 million VND. The people's quality of life has been improved. Currently, the rate of the people participating in health insurance has reached 81%; the households have access to clean hygienic water is 100%; cultural households reached over 86%; nearly 90% of the rate of hazardous waste and solid waste in the area has been treated. The commune is trying to achieve the new rural commune standard by 2025.

Hoa Binh allocated over 30 trillion VND (nearly 1.18 billion USD) to develop infrastructure systems in ethnic minority and mountainous areas during 2019 - 2024. Priority was given to transport and irrigation infrastructure; markets; schools; medical stations; communal houses; and power grid, telecommunication, radio, and television systems.

Ceramic mural on Hoa Binh military-civilian ties inaugurated
