(HBO) - Afforestation models in Nuong Dam commune (Kim Boi district) have been scaled up, contributing to increasing incomes and improving livelihoods and living standards for local residents, towards gradually developing sustainable forestry.



Nuong Dam commune (Kim Boi district) is home to over 1,750 ha of production forest.


Recognising the clear role and significance of forests in economic development, in recent years, the authority of Nuong Dam commune has focused on planting, caring, and protecting forests.

In order to maximise the advantages of hilly and mountainous terrain, in recent times, forest planting has become a strong movement among the local community, bringing stable incomes for the local population. Currently, the commune has over 3,085 ha of forested land, including over 1,330 ha of protected forests and nearly 1,753 ha of production forests.

According to Bui Duc Quang, an official in charge of land and agriculture affairs in Nuong Dam commune, stated that in order to effectively implement forest planting, care, and protection activities, the communal Party Committee and authority have been implementing appropriate policies and solutions. These efforts are aligned with the responsibilities of and economic benefits for forest planters, contributing to raising public awareness of forest protection.

Additionally, the allocation of land and forests to local residents has been effectively carried out, with successful forest planting models being replicated, helping increase the forest coverage rates. As a result, the commune maintains a forest cover rate of 65% or higher.

Defining forest economic development as one of the local strengths of the locality, in the coming time, Nuong Dam commune will focus on sustainable afforestation and expanding production forest areas; perform well the management, care and protection of forests, especially forest fire prevention; and constantly promote forestry development and effective exploitation and use of forest resources.

Nguyen Van Chi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nuong Dam commune said the locality has developed a number of strategic solutions such as forming concentrated and stable planting areas; providing preferential policies on loans for locals to plant forests; improving the quality of forest tree varieties; and applying advanced afforestation methods; and seeking and expanding consumption markets for timber from planted forests.

Attention has been paid to the communication work, encouraging local residents to strictly implement regulations on forest protection and development in residential areas, thereby helping to exploit forest resources effectively, Chi said.
