(HBO) - Hoa Binh reservoir in the northern province of Hoa Binh has a capacity of more than 9 billion cu.m and boasts rich aquatic resources. The area is considered a precious treasure of aquatic life, especially for caged fish farming development.

The reservoir has a diverse and rich aquatic biota. According to statistics, the lake has 123 species belonging to 79 genera and 19 families. There are many rare species with high economic value and significance for scientific research.

Hoang Van Son, Director of the Department of Fisheries, saidthat with numerous advantages, people in the reservoir area have for years focused on caged fish farming.Raising fish in cages in the 2015 - 2022 period developed quickly. The number of fish farming cages in 2015 was 2,317, by 2022 it climbed to4,900 cages, an increase of 111.48% or 2,580 cages and an average hikeof 13.93%/year.

Aquaculture has created jobs and stable income for over 1,600 workers. Currently,there are nearly 20 businesses, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and farm owners investing in caged fish farming, including businesses that continue to expand their investment scale.

Also according to Son, many households have combined this form of farming with eco-tourism and entertainment models to serve tourists. Visitors can experience new services, tour farms and try local specialties at the same time when coming to the locality.

The model of cage fish farming on the lake bed associated with tourism has opened a new direction in the local socio-economic development goals; increased production, consumption, and value of aquatic production; and attracted more tourists come to Hoa Binh, thus contributing to developing tourism into a key economic sector of the province.
